I don't think breed matters, it's bird specific and depends on calcium intake.

I only have 3 breeds of chicken, two of which are laying (BA and EE), I am amazed at the hardness of their shells-so unlike store-bought eggs that I was used to! Much larger, deep yellow yolks, too. I think it could be linked to diet-I give free choice oyster shell for hard shells and feed premium feeds foe egg quality.

It has to do with BOTH feed and breed.
It also has to do with the strain of the breed.

I did not know that breed affects egg shell strength! I have mixed bantams and their egg shells are always very thin and very light colour. Thinner than the shop bought eggs. I feed only layer pellets. Could this mean they are not getting enough calcium?

Inbreeding maybe.

You will give them marble powder and oyster shell powder.
