WHICH BREEDS LAY THE LARGEST EGGS?

I am pretty certain that JUMBO eggs come from Ostriches. But, being as those are not a common backyard bird, you might consider something like a black australorp or other such more typical fowl.

hee hee hee, sorry, couldn't help myself!!!

From what I understand, it has more to do with the age of the hen more than it does the breed. Although breed does play a part. I have black sexlinks and they lay a pretty big egg. They get bigger as they get older too. Bad thing is that each year the hen will lay less eggs than the year before, bigger eggs, but less of them. My daddy's RIR lay some huge eggs and they are about 2 1/2 years old.

Of 4 Buff Orpington pullets I had, 3 laid eggs the size of Duck Eggs! the 4th one still lays x-tra LARGE or Jumbo eggs.

The first 3 all died (at different times) of being egg-bound.

They also laid very consistently ...almost 1 egg each per day throughout the Winter (with a coupla hours of artificial light).

Their chicks that I've raised are not yet old enough to lay, but I'm expecting good layers!

just my 2 pesos worth,

I have red sex link and they lay every day, extra large to what I refer to as jurasic size eggs, truly amazing breed but have a tendency to keel over and die after four to five years of age.
