I've determined that the way things work around our farm is that we must first acquire the animals, then think about the housing. If we wait until the housing is done in order to acquire the animals, we never get the animals. As such, we now find ourselves in possession of 28 RIR chicks of three weeks age -- and no coop.

So, tell me... Which came first at your place? The chickens, or the coop?

Well I started the coop then came the chickens. They are five weeks old and still no coop! Good thing it is still cold up here.

I have been begging for a coop for years and years. Finally I got my chicks earlier this spring anyway. I just kinda figured it would take a higher priority around here when my DH gets tired of smelling the chicks.

Worked for me. Tee hee hee Ooh I'm so evil.

The good thing about getting chicks or eggs is that it buys you time to get the coop up and running. If in the house, it is quite the incentive. My whole family pitched in.
Chicks first.
