Which chickens would YOU choose?

I can only keep four of the chicks I currently have in the brooder. Production, friendliness & tolerance to confinement are my priorities. I live in Portland, OR. Which would you keep? I have:

3 Buff Orpingtons
3 Black Australorps
1 Barred Rock
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte

I would keep the buff orpingtons and the silver laced wayendotte. My two buffs love to sun tan on my lap and hang out with me. My silver laced is very nice and hilarious.

I would do 2 Orps and 2 Aussies.

Agree with The Phantom - 3 Orpingtons & 1 Wyandotte would be my choice. I prefer keeping 2 of each breed, got this thing about "odd man out", have had Australorps chicks but never had them past 8wks so uncertain as to their temperment. A friend loves her Australorps, says good layers & temperament.

I like the one-of-each idea but I have this "odd man out" thing too. The Barred Rock is THE friendliest chick I've ever had & there's only ONE - ack! So the BR is a must. It's just figuring out who else gets to stay.

Aussies are beautiful and gentle, as are Orps. Silver laced Wyandottes are stunning. I'd recommend an Aussie and your friendly BR, as well as either 2 Orps or One Orp and the SLW. We have a mixed flock of several singles, and it makes for easy identification and a varied group. Never had too much trouble if they're all the "odd one out."
Also, are roosters a problem for you? If so, you may need to wait and see who turns out to be a roo or a hen before you decide for sure.

I would consult this list and decide for myself. Only 3/4 you list are found on the list.

IMHO is go with
1 Barred rock
1 Australorp
& 2 buff Orp

Get rid of the Wyandotte for sure!
