Which heat lamp to get?

250 is probably too much for your setup but you can lower the heat output with a dimmer and by raising the lamp to give a larger, but less intense heat circle. Infrared light heats objects, not the air. So, it may seem that the brooder isn't very warm when the area under the light is actually quite toasty. Just make sure there is space away from the heat for them so they don't get too warm. Fwiw, I used 175 and 100W outdoors in spring. 250 is for large groups of chicks or very cold locations.

Thanks, I made the top out of some closetmaid wire shelving, so I can raise it when needed. Gonna watch them real closely the first few days, so we can adjust as needed. I've got it set on one side of the box, so the other side should be much cooler. :)
