Which incubator to buy !!!

I could see me making a short walled foam surround to set it down in.
So the modification to add water for the humidity, I take it would be to drill a hole thru the top and then install a rubber plug or something?

I like your idea with a rubber tube. I was thinking more of putting the hole near the bottom on the side so I can stick my turkey baster into it reaching the reservoir and adding water.

I use some tubing for fish tanks to reach the resevoir. I just cut the length I want and fish it thru a vent hole ontop and stick the other end into the resevoir I want. Then just keep a two litre bottle full of water in the room so its room temp to use when it needs refilled. To pump the water in I use a 12cc syringe. Works great.

Thanks for the info. So I take at the look down period you pull all the eggs out and remove the egg turner followed but putting the eggs back in of course. I did read someplace that someone said to lay paper towel on the bottom of this unit as the floor is slippery for chicks.

Incuview doesn't really need more ventilation...tho some insulation around the bottom would not be remiss, especially if it's in a room that is not temperature stable.
There's a lot of good tips in this very long thread...and also proof that the MFG is very supportive...it's what convinced me to buy this one...and well I was and am smitten with the clear lid.

I use a siphon bottle and added a 12" metal tube for adding water.

Prior to putting my holes in i was getting terrible temps (101-103). My heater runs like a beast, its very hot almost constantly heating. I did stabilize (closed off the room)at 68 degrees and I tried changing the set temp but neither change had the desired effect, I still had fluctuations, little stability, and over heating. For me, mine needed more ventilation. Granted I put four small 1/16" holes in the bottom (1 in each corner) so I didn't put anything crazy like 1/2". I plan to run both machines on another test run (no eggs) in a few weeks when I get time, just to verify my findings.

Glad to hear that I wasn't the only one that loves the clear lid. Thanks for all the good ideas!

Setting for room temps....I think lowest is 70-80

@BarnGems thanks for the info. Is this the foam one from farm innovators your talking about? It does have a see thru lid.

I have this very one and my eggs are on day 17. I like the fact I can see into the bator. I will bet that every bator has a learning curve to figure out. I don’t think any incubator would be considered a “set and forget” one. I have an external thermometer and hygrometer in addition to the built in ones. I constantly check all four gauges in hopes of both sets staying within the limits. And the humidity - well you do have to stay on top of that. The water will run out and the humidity will instantly drop. No slow decline. All this is what I mean by a learning curve. Hopefully I will figure it out one day for smooth sailing. However, in the bator’s defense, this is my first time incubating. My eggs are progressing just fine and appear to be a bit ahead of schedule. Oh my!
