I've never had Pekins so can't say yay or nay as far as keeping them.

I do have Muscovy and love them to bits. They are quiet which is nice if you live around people. They fly so keeping them at home will mean clipping a wing every fall after their big molt.
They are good foragers,
Good egg layers but that means they love to brood which means if she lays she will go broody. And they make wonderful mamas but if you are not careful you'll have more Muscovy than you know what to do with.
They can live long lives too I just lost one of my females she was 15 yrs old.

I vote for Muscovies! They have had less human interference (as far as breeding them for certain characteristics), and so they tend to be healthier. They are quieter, more adorable, and stand a chance at getting away during a predator attack. They are also far better at reproducing and have great personalities most of the time. Team Muscovy!

I have pekins and muscovy and love both kinds of duck
My first duck -- daffy -- is a muscovy drake rescued newly hatched, in a cold, waterlogged state, in a rain storm, alone at night. He was hand-raised and is now a great big, affectionate lump. He is very wiley and runs and hides, when I need him in the coop early, if I am going out. He loves cuddles, and nibbling me -- preening my hair and nibbling clothes, fingers, toes etc. I have a second mucovy drake who is a problem boy, but he is easy to pick up and responds to time out [in a dog crate for a couple of minutes]

I also have rescued pekins. One is closely bonded with the problem muscovy: I have no idea what they see in each other!!! This pekin is not very clever but is lovely and soft and cuddly. My other two pekin rescued drakes were clearly brooded together and are very tightly bonded. They don't like being handled/cuddled but are no longer timid and afraid of me. I call them Huey and Dewey, and I am now looking for Louie to join them!!!

My son has three pekins -- two females and a drake -- that were brooded together. I can pick them all up and cuddle them but they don't really like it. His smaller female is a very noisy crested and gets the prize for personality [and loudness!!!] The larger female has laid an egg daily since September last year, and is very clever at watching me and knowing when mealworms are going to come her way!!!

My son also had a very sweet female muscovy who would come and sit on the arm of my garden chair, talk to me, and be petted, every day. She once climbed onto my shoulder, parrot style, which may have been affection but I think was dominance!!!! Sadly she was taken by a preditor in the summer.

So I like both muscovy and pekin and I would not be without them!!!

I haven’t had Muscovy ducks so I can’t say much on them
But I have a pekin who is a great duck
Very smart and loyal
I have her offspring that are pekin x khaki Campbell
Love them all to bits
My pekin isn’t a big one she is actually on the smaller side
But you do need to give them more nutritional yeast for extra niacin’s to prevent leg issues
Great egg layers

Muscovy all the way! Lovely temprement, generally a healthier breed who live very long lives, great and reproducing and are just the cutest breed. Here is a picture of mine. But all ducks are lovely!
