Which male quail should I keep for breeding?

I have a Pearl Male and what I believe is a Falb Fee Male. I don't know which male I should breed with my 5 female quail. I'm working with what girls I got so. I have 1 Pansy Fee, 1 Pearl, 1 Falb Fee, 1 German Pastel and a English White.

My goal is to create pretty eggs and pretty birds. I definitely know that ill have a variety. Please help thanks!

Are you breeding for anything other than looks? If so, compare the two. Which is bigger? Which has the better disposition? If not, choose the one you like the looks of.

Which birds you choose to breed depends on the characteristics you want in your birds. That falb fee boy looks very nice to me. ;-)

I agree with @Nabiki it will come down to personality, size, and whether you want a lighter or darker colr to your covey

They both have a very dominant presence in the cage. The Pearl is very squirmy and the Falb is more chill. I actually hatched him. Another male Pearl I hatched came from a beautiful brown egg. So I’d love to have brown eggs but with the mix of girls I have idk what I am getting

Which of the two carry the fee gene? Doesn’t the Pearl coloring come from the Falb Fee breed?

Yes they both carry the fee gene…..it can be difficult in some cases to actually say pansyfee vs pearlfee and graufee vs falbfee without knowing the actual origin of the eggs as the phenotypical differences be minimal

I guess what I’m actually saying applies to the lighter/darker goal
Fee gene mutes to gray/tan in darker birds and black/white in lighter birds

I may be wrong, but I believe that @Enthusiast created the black line from selectively breeding the fee gene in grau fee to tibetan

These are the girls. They looks a little more tan only because of the sand bags that I recently bought lol. Will not be getting them again. So basically no matter which male I choose I'll get basically the same colors because they carry the same gene?

What would those colors be, now seeing the girls? I have quite a mix.

The pearl male came from a brown and the falb fee came from a blue. I have been banding them since birth just do I would know in conversations like these

Brown egg and blue egg???? The falb fee would also be a carrier of celadon gene…..making it the better choice of a keeper if interested in breeding for blue eggs
