Which Male?

I'm sure they are having a ball with them at the PO, it's just a small little town PO and the people there are great. The last pair we ordered from Brad came in a huge horizon shipping box (I think it's the biggest one they make). They asked what was in the box and I told them peafowl, it was soooooo funny. "the ones with the big tails" one asked. I opened one corner of the box and one stuck his head out for a look see. It was classic. Then I take it out to the parking lot and try to put the box in the trunk - doesn't fit of course. We just got a new car, a Chevy Camaro, it had about a 1000 miles on it then and here I am in the parking lot trying to stuff this huge box in the back seat full of live birds and one kept sticking his head out looking around. Every time I go in that PO they still chuckle about that.

Yep, same here Steve, when I take birds to ship or receive them, alway someone want to see what they look like.

You should see their faces , when I tell them its a male with a full train..

Let use know how they made it in this heat.........I am alway afraid to ship now. Sure coming from Brad he knows what he is doing !!!!!

They made the trip just fine, and less than 24 hours transit time from OK to NC. He mailed them out yesterday afternoon. The last pair we got from him in the spring he mailed on Wed and we got them Fri. I guess these hit the planes just right. He said they had a big rain storm on Sunday so it was cooler there and the front is supposed to hit us tonight.( I can hear thunder now. ) It was mid 80's yesterday and low 90's here today. There was a layer of pine shavings in box but I didn't see any fruit or anything. I don't know if he doesn't use it or they ate it. I got some pics, i'll post later. Time to feed before the rain.

2 pair of adult peafowl shipped this year....I wonder if I can get a tax deduction. lol

We have had fertility from 2 yr old males....... as long as they were not a late hatch and are in good condition.

As to which male------ I would suggest trying to get the sellers to send you photos of each. When I buy pieds for breeding- (because they are all marked differently) I choose by what they look like. For Blue Pied males the prices are more that what we normally sell them for, but prices vary greatly by region and breeder. We have been selling AVERAGE adult Blue Pied males for $175 and yearling males for $65. THose prices would be higher if birds have better or unique markings.

Well, I decided to take the yearling, sight unseen. The people were moving and couldn't send a picture (and I knew that to be true). He sounded great on the phone. I drove to get him thinking if he were bad I could turn around and go home and get the other one another day. He was gorgeous! OK, a bit muddy and bedraggled because he has been living in temproary accomodation while his owners moved. I paid up, they loaded him in my crate and away I went. Part way home I realised things were not as good as they seemed, he has a cough. He sounds like he has a really bad chest cold, gurgling and hacking:( It was too late to take him back so I kept driving. I have him in isolation on tetracycline and am hoping for the best.
Will post a picture tomorrow. It looks like there is a faint hint of spalding in him as he has yellow on his cheeks...although that could be because he is so sick!
ARRGHHH!!!

My vet told me to give a peafowl 4in1 brand nasal spray. Just a couple of drops on each nostril. But let him get it completely in one nostril before doing the second. He was insistant that I use exactly that brand. I can't recall the reason.
I only applied it once each day. it helped alot, so he didn't get a secondary infection, made it easier for him to breath and cleared up in 2 days

Let us know how he does, the drama is close to home because I have three whites 6, 3, and 2 weeks old. Every bird is so precious. We really get attached to them.

I'll say a prayer for your new guy.

yikes.. sorry for your trouble.. really best to get better meds like tylan or baytril.. those are supposed to be good for respiratory infections. Both are used for sinusitis, which is a respiratory infection..

BTW randy had best advice- always request pictures and usually best to simply ignore the ones that cant show pictures for whatever excuse. Cameras are SO available nowadays.. cheap cameras, or cameras on mobile phones.. even if the owner doesn't have one then they know several who do! No excuse, really for "no pics" anymore.

Can't buy tylan or baytril over the counter here. I have a vet going to get me some but it won't be until Wednesday. Hopefully the tratcycline will hold it off until then. He is eating and drinking and doesn't have anything in his eyes or nose he just sounds really conjested.
I bought my pair of BS peacocks from the people that sold me the pied. They sent pictures and we went and picked them up. Currently they are moving and are stuck between houses as they had to be out of theirs but there was a legal problem with the new one so they are camping in a friends field...hence no camera and no internet hook up. The birds also had to move out of the old place and are in temporary quarters and I would imagine that has caused the problem.

Ok so it's an unique situation.. "no pics" happens way too often even with people not temporarily camping out.

Wish I knew more about medical stuff for peafowl.. here's hoping the new bird pulls through! Take pics if he makes it out picture perfect for us all to see.
