Which Maran rooster should I keep. The first pict or second?

Agreed. I believe Cuckoo marans is correct, not sure if i'd say the pea combed one is a EEXmarans though. More breeds have pea combs and could have possibly contributed to that.

Ok. Let me solve this....All the chickens in the pictures are ROOSTERS.....THEY ARE ALL CROWING....

Now. I guess I will let the last one go, since it is a ix. I though it was too.

Out of the first two, which is the better roo (on Maran). The light one or darker one.

Tks to everyone.....

I think the lighter one, but I'm not a Marans expert. Looks like he might have more feathers on his legs?

In the first picture and the third one, there is a blue chicken in the background. That's the one everyone is saying is a hen. Looks like one to me, too. But, that is not one of the ones you're asking about, right?

None of them. They are roosters.

I big fat Homer Simpson Doh!

I hope you didn't take offense. That's a good tip, though, if they were hens.

I would choose the lighter one, for other reasons stated, as well as the darker one may only carry one barring gene, which would make it impossible to sex his babies at birth, costing you $ and effort in raising the babies to crow/lay age. Go with the lighter one.

if the darker one DOES have two barring genes, he has bad barring for a roo, and for that reason he is voted off the island. No way to make a good answer out of his coloring. If he was my only roo I would not hesitate to use him. I have a dark barred olive egger roo that served me very well this year, but I am growing out his replacement as we speak. He is light, good barring, clean legged, bearded, all improvements on the dad. Dad has been a very good roo. I will miss him when his time comes, to be sure! I think I will put some effort into re-homing him rather than using the stew pot as the first recourse to solving the problem of the extra roo. May even keep him 'in reserve' just in case his son tips over for some reason, or gets predated.

What is wrong with the comb of the second rooster? It is the same as the first. Also they are pure the first two. When I got them she told me they were from a breeder and the third was from a swap. The first two are pure as far as I can tell.

I think I will go with the first one...

Tks to everyone....
