Which Natural Disaster Scares You More...

I have been through several tornadoes, not scared, but have a very healthy respect. Fire and water scares the daylights out of me, just the thought of burning really makes me sweat, no pun intended. Earthquakes concern me, but I decided a long time ago, not to worry about stuff that i had no control over. I don't think so much of myself and being in danger as I do my family . . . and my animals. THAT scares me.

I do think with all these natural disasters, someone somewhere is trying to give us a hint to straighten up and start living the good life. We are so out of control in this world, something catastophic is about the only thing that is going to scare us back to the right way to live. I know most of us on here do try to live the good life, and I am not trying to get a political or religious thread going, because all I am talking about is living right. Treat others as we want to be treated, respect your elders . . .you know what I mean.

Earthquakes on the whole aren't so bad (lived thru the 89 SF one and the norco one). Most of the time when things come down it's due to poor building choices.

I could not do hurricanes or tornadoes, the idea you know it's comming but can't leave, i'd rather be surprised. With an earthquake, by the time you notice it's begun it's over.

Tsunami coming from La Palma , in the Canary Islands off the west coast of Africa scares me the most, but what *concerns* me the most is tornadoes...believe I watched an airborne one the other night thanks to some spectacular lightening.

They're talking the chance of the tsunami down these days...ok, so I'm not scared now.

My boy's planning on MIT then NASA, to work on interplanetary colonization.

Tornado's scare me the most, I live in Tornado alley and they happen mostly at night almost every day in the spring and summer months. The next scariest thing is watching some redneck Okie with no teeth wearing a tank top, saying it sounded like a train was coming LOL..........

I'll take earthquakes over anything else any day of the week! I live in earthquake central and it really isn't a big deal. Sure they happen from time to time, but most are small and are pretty exciting (many people actually like the little ones). The big ones are still pretty rare and usually very localized. I'd much rather have my stuff (house, family, etc.) be shaken and squashed than picked up and thrown / scattered miles away (tornadoes, hurricanes, floods).

I think it would take a really really really big earthquake, and one almost right under our house to actually make it life threatening.

I was close to several in 2003 - but was driving through Kansas at the time.

I live in Des Moines and like to stand by the window watching for funnel clouds, They never hit the city proper though.

Crud I just think I jinxed us!
