Which one is laying white eggs?

I have 5 good girls who lay 3 to 5 eggs a day. One of them is laying a large white egg and I can't figure out who. I've looked them up and all are supposed to be brown egg layers. I have a Buff Orpington, an Asian Black, a Rhode Island Red, an Americana/Auracana and a Gold Laced Wyandotte. So, what gives here? The white eggs are the largest except for a light brown egg that is nearly as big. I hope someone can answer my curiosity.

We will need photos of each of your birds and photos of the eggs... place your white egg next to a store bought white egg or on a piece of white paper/paper towel.

My money is on the crossbred Easter Egger.
They are not guaranteed to lay green or blue eggs and I even have one who lays cream.

My money is also on the EE, but pictures of the chickens and eggs would help. Some "brown" eggs are extremely pale. If any of them have white earlobes, that's your most likely culprit.

for a quick check, look at the color of their ears.. you can almost match the color with the egg..

Not in EE you can't. Or any mutt, for that matter.

Hi! have some citations! Earlobe color isn't ACTUALLY linked to egg color.

"In table 9 is shown the distribution of egg color for the 62 females, TABLE 9 Showing independent assortment of factors for earlobe color and egg shell color. EGG COLOR GRADES grouped according to earlobe color. Grade 1 is white and the succeeding grades become progressively darker. It is seen that individuals falling into the four grades of earlobe color lay eggs of practically the same average color and hence there is no evidence for any conditions which tend to associate white earlobe with white egg color"

The reason I brought up earlobes is that commonly white egg laying chickens are BRED to have white earlobes and therefore a white earlobed chicken is more likely to lay white eggs by basis of our social conditioning and breeding standards, not by genetics.

Rather, since most chicken breeds lay brown eggs, a chicken with white earlobes is more likely to have some ancestry from a white egg laying bird or possibly be a purebred white egg layer. But if you're making a bunch of barnyard mixes, Cyprus is right, it holds little relation except to say "this bird has some amount of parentage that's likely to have been a white egg layer, maybe".

My bet on the EE as well! Assuming you haven’t gotten blue or green eggs ever.

For many production breeds, it is true that most of the white egg layers have white earlobes, while many brown eggers have red. It’s common enough to be a good general rule of thumb.

well, I failed to say that it is not definate
but in my 55 years of messing with chickens, it has served me well enough..
I am not an expert, so I am not going to argue the point.
I just said as a quick check it might help. I really don't give a dam..

Ok. I was just trying to educate so people could understand it better. You're welcome to not give a dam about understanding it of course - not everyone needs to know everything. I thought it was actually and genuinely super interesting and useful. :O Genetics and how they relate to our breeding of birds is neato.

I do not use CDB but I do use Hemp Oil.
if I get a headache, it is gone within minutes.
My daughter is a distributor of this type of Hemp Oil.
there is no cannibus (sp) in it.
the plant is a different strain. It is legal to grow it here in Wisconsin.
I do not know anything about your medical condition.
I had an episode where I had a sharp pain go up my neck and stop on the top of my head, not on the inside of the skull, but on the outside.. I went to the VA doctor and he told me to see a chiropractor. I did and we got rid of all pain.. that was before I started using the Hemp Oil..
just remember, all chiropractors are not alike..some are better than others..
In using the hemp oil, you might have relaxed some muscles or tendons and that could be causing your pain.
