Which state would you...

I'm an East Texas girl by birth, so I agree with everyone on that. I've lived in quite a few states (DH is military) and out of the list you posted I'd probably pick Kentucky. Nice people, pretty land, lots of hiking and camping areas, animal friendly.

I think Kentucky sounds good, so does Texas. I'm in Iowa and I have to say it has it's good and bad. Love the trees. Lived in New Mexico for awhile and I felt like a bug scuttling from one shrub to the other. I was really surprised by how much I MISSED trees! So anyway, trees are good. And the 4 seasons are really awesome, I would hate to miss that.

Winter is BAD. If you're in the country the snow and ice can be a problem. Getting it plowed and then getting to wherever you want to go. It is also way cold and depressing. Land/rentals are fairly cheap. MUCH cheaper than other places I have lived. Not many to No cute cowboys in hats. Mostly, well, ...mostly not that. Friendly up to a point. In the small towns pretty insular. Think Big fish in very small ponds.

Man, it sounds like I don't like it here! I didn't mean to make it sound like that. Guess the winter is getting to me! You know missouri is nice. Not quite as cold. Lots to do. I envy you, wish I could pick up and move. Hill country in Texas really reminded me of Iowa, but with a cool accent and misters.

Western Washington is undoubtedly nothing but TREES and COUNTRY.

Nearby the Port Angeles/Sequim city area, there's some cowboy type people, but everywhere else it is hit and miss. This is logging country, not roping country. People are very friendly though, there's little to no rulings on keeping chickens especially if you live outside city limits, the only downside is if you hate rain, don't come here except in cities like Port Townsend or Sequim, there's hardly as much, otherwise you're talking 70-130 inches a year, depending on where you're going. And the other downside is reality expenses. There's a lot of expensive land out here because it is so plentiful and beautiful.

Wow everyone!! That is such a lot of places! Thank you!
I wonder if I can remember them all here? I'm trying desperately to come up with negatives now, so I can decide! Feel free to

Missouri - So lovely! We went there once for a "Jackapalooza" camping event, where everyone brought their Jack's... Very, very pretty

Ummmm.. I remember lots of ticks??
Alaska - !! Gorgeous, of course... Always hear of amazing people... but when I close my eyes, all I can see is a moose walking down the main street

That would actually be really cool!
Iowa - Was sounding awesome until we got to the part about the mountains of snow.. I like it (having been snow-deprived at an early age

) but I'm wondering how many months of it I could take.
Arkansas - Never been there, but it sure looks beautiful!
Texas - I actually did think of Texas once or twice, I only dismissed it because it's a completely unknown quantity to me, and all the ex'es live in Texas... but wait, God blessed Texas... hmmm?

Kentucky - Love the hills, trees, pastures, horses.. I was born there.. I suppose I'm only afraid the "cousins" might find me!

Maine - Some lovely people... lobster at Mcdonalds? Hehehe!
Tennessee - Pretty, really liked it (Gaitlinburg was amazing)... I suppose it only seems, well... well traveled??
North Carolina - People were so amazing! They even brought us housewarming gifts and pies! Oh my goodness! They brought their huntin rifles into the local diner!

Umm... lots of pottholes??
Ohio - Cold!! (we've only been there in the winter, LOL)
Arizona - Sorry Arizona

... I had to go to Mesa for 8 weeks of job training... I'm used to some heat, but without my accustomed humidity, I felt like I was being dry roasted

Washington - I thought it would be soo cool to live there with all the rain! Love walking in it, hearing it, smelling it.. but the cost is the clinker.

My top 2 so far are...

Ocala, Fl - Oak trees! Pastures, horses, warmth, tropical enough for Plumeria and Bougainvillea, horses, oak trees, horses, oak trees, horses, oak trees...

Idaho - We lived in Boise for a year... so great... I learned to fly there, we went white water rafting there.. Flew my mom and our 4 Jack russells (leashed to the seatbelts in the backseat LOL!) up into the mountains for a wonderful and ohhh so humorous camping trip including some attempted fishing. Beautiful mountains, really clean air, gorgeous valleys, areas with mild weather... I can never take it off the short list!

I really miss moving, husband has been out of the military for 6 months now and we don't have to move unless we want to now. But I keep thinking about where else we could live, based on what I've been around. I need trees too, real trees. But then again, the ocean, or mountains, a more extreme landscape would be cool.

I bet I would really like California, it has ocean and mountains. But it's so far away!

I like Tennessee over Kentucky. Can't really tell you why, I just do.

Pretty well over Ohio, have spent the most time here. Might be cool on the northern end on the lake, but... winter time would be worse than it is in the south part of the state.

An island would be neat, like Martha's Vineyard. But land isn't cheap.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to wait until the dogs were no longer with us, find homes for the chickens, and try a beach front Condo or something. No mud, no dog hair, not so much dust in the house... I wonder what that would be like? Daily walks on the beach, watching the weather over the water, can leave town without finding a sitter for a change in scenery.

Texas sounds promising too! Where ever it is green.

But for me, something South, longer growing season, and close to the ocean would be a bonus. Arizona was neat, but SO hot and dry. Pretty though.

Our next trip will be to Montana. Haven't made it there yet.
