It is so exciting to get to see them hatch. The first time I let my family all crowd around the bator. The second time I planned it for a school day, so I would have the bator all to myself and they could come home to the babies.

After the first few splash chicks hatched I decided to chart everything Bonnie lays while she is paired with Mosby. If the eggs develop or not, the hatch and the color produced . I have a much more detailed chart with weather etc on it too. The common assessment is out of 100 chicks there will be 25% splash 25% black and 50% blue. I want to see how this plays out in reality based on my 2 blue orpingtons. Bonnie is the only hen laying right now.
