can anyone help her out here??? I wish I could, but I'll try to keep the post going so someone will answer you.

Thanks for trying. My theory is that there may be some Minorca behind these birds somewhere. I hear that Minorcas come in single or rose combed varieties, and I've also heard that crossing a rose to a single gets you something like a pea comb (which is pretty much what this guy has). Minorcas and Spanish are pretty similar, after all. The only problem I can see with my theory is that my birds are bantams, and I haven't ever heard of a bantam Minorca. Perhaps it isn't Minorca, but some type of bantam with a rose comb?

As to where they came from, I got them from a breeder in Georgia. I'd rather not mention her name, as I don't know that she is really to blame for this. If I had requested this particular breed, I might be a bit ticked to get a sub-par bird, but these eggs came as extras packed with a dozen of a breed I did ask for. I figure they are bonus birds anyway, so if one isn't good quality, I just won't use him.

Well I was looking through my poultry catalogs and I had forgotten that Murray McMurray sells them. I think I might order some from him next year if I can't find some on here...Also I want some Crevecours...

ok ok....1 more question and I will not bother anyone again...well maybe...lol. Does anyone know of a club for the White Faced Black Spanish?? there seems to be a club for every other breed. Just wondering. I really want to devote some time to these birds..

Sorry if I haven't been on this thread for awhile. Life is busy. I will have chicks for sale in the spring of the Large spanish if anyone is interested.

Now to your question. There used to be a White Faced Black Spanish/Blue Andalusian club but it has since become inactive. It is hard to have a breed club for rarer breeds such as the spanish because usually only one or two people end up taking care of everything and it gets to be too much.

Oh ok....I can understand how that could easily happen. Well count me in for the spring order..I want some really bad, and I want the full size so that would be wonderful.
Thanks a bunch...

Since the first day I became interested in chickeneering, I've wanted to keep/breed white faced black Spanish. They are really hard to find, especially good show quality/breeder stock. Even though they are supposedly sold out for the year, though, I just got a call from Ideal Poultry & they have 27 straight-run babies for me & said approximately 14 of them are pullets! (The rest will be named Dumpling Soup, Kung Pao, Deep Fried, etc.)

It has been a comedy of errors, trying to get my hands on healthy WFBS chicks or eggs. I've ordered eggs from a breeder twice now, only to have the eggs be really old (irregular air sacs, a sign of old eggs that have been sitting around for a while) and of poor quality, and none of them have hatched (I won't order shipped eggs again EVER from anybody as a result... what an expensive experiment, over $80 dished out now and still no WFBS birds). For about the cost of my failed egg experiment, I'm getting 25 straight-run chicks from Ideal.

I know what people say about hatchery birds, but this is a breed on the critical list. Seems to me even hatchery stock is better than letting them go by the wayside.

If anyone in northern/central California and/or the Sierra foothills has WFBS show-quality or breeder stock I could cross with my hatchery birds, please contact me & we'll see what we can work out.
