Please help me find out what is going on. Pictures are out of my Americana over a year old and I thought this white growth was just poop on her comb, but she has started to stagger to one side. Seems a bit disoriented. And the only thing I’ve noted different is that she has this white growth.I do see a couple more spots coming in on her comb. Trying to figure out what it is. I don’t see any other chickens with it on them. She is eating. Let me know what you all think or if you have experienced it. Thank you!

This could be a little favus or fungus, but I would try to wash it off with soap and water, or Betadine. Miconazole or other antifungal cream can be applied daily. How old is she? Is she molting? Her feather loss looks like she is molting or being feather picked. Does she lay eggs? I doubt if her favus is related to her illness, but I would check her crop first thing in the morning before Stephen eats, to see if it has emptied overnight. What do her droppings look like? Is she eating?

She is eating and she is a year and a half old. She is molting right now. I have not felt her crop yet, but I will try to tomorrow early in the morning. I saw her defecate yesterday and it looked normal. She is not laying eggs, but that is normal since she is in molt. So you recommend trying to wash it off? I did poke at it a little bit and it does seem solid to the comb. I was thinking maybe she is sick and that has lowered her immune system allowing fungal growth… I don’t know.Ill look into getting that anti fungal. ((:)::

That could be true. I had a rooster once who had the white on his pea comb every once in awhile. It would clear up. Sometimes it will wash off with a soapy wash cloth or QTips. I would try that first. The miconazole or even clotrimazole can be used without any problem. I have treated my dog’s fungal infection on her face with Betadine years ago per vet’s instructions. They can get fungal infections from the soil. Chickens who may not dust bathe can get skin infections and other problems. If the white material increases in area, I would definitely use miconazole, because it can spread onto the comb, wattles, face, and into feathered areas. Below are some pictures of mild favus and severe favus:

thank you so much that first image definitely looks similar to what’s going on. It may not be the underlying problem, but I will definitely try to get my hands on that antifungal and give it a wash with soap and water. I will for sure be wearing gloves lol. 🤢 🦠
