White Leghorn, the forgotten breed

Oh, what a beautiful rooster!! I currently have 12 (week old) White Leg Horn chicks, they weren't sexed when I bought them so I have no idea if we have a rooster in the bunch. I certainly hope so!! I'm really looking forward to the eggs! We are new to raising chickens so, any advice you care to share would be greatly appreciated!

I bought a dozen white leghorns and ended up with 7... boys. Worst layers I ever had.

I've only had the chance to raise three Leghorns. Two were very aggressive hens I bought awhile back, ended up selling those. I have a White Leghorn chick right now, she's really cute, but I'm having a hard time getting her used to me, as well as my five other chicks... I feel like maybe I went too easy on them, because they're two weeks now. Hopefully I'll be able to get her somewhat used to people, if not I may end up selling her, we'll see.

I have a video with her in it, but not sure if posting a YT link would be ok, and besides that it has my other five too xD She doesn't have a name yet.

I was thinking about my LH chicks. The browns look like they could exist in the wild, almost game bird looking.(preety though) My white ones? I would be curious if the white color is originally a mutation?
As for feed, my birds dont seem to keen on any feed i give them.Greens like Romaine lettuce and kale, clover and barley make my birds go crazy(happy crazy) I give them some scratch and layer feed also, but they dont eat much of it.

I went with leghorns as my first chickens, I got others but half of my flock are leghorns. After one month the most impressive part is that they develop fast, even as day old chicks they could fly out of the brooder and I had to make a 2nd brooder for them. They do not spend as much time at the feeder as other birds and will scratch from day one in the brooder when other birds just went to the feeder. I added a few small bugs to the brooder to make it worthwhile. They are not friendly to humans and will not eat from my hand as others do, but they will steal a worm I hand fed to other birds. I really wasn't looking for another pet, I just wanted what chickens produce and leghorns fill the egg need from what I have read.

They are egg laying machines. And the only breed so far I have that will produce double yokers.

Most all of my breeds have produced double yolkers. BLRW, BCM, NH, EE, SBEL, ..... I don't know if I have ever gotten one from my SLW or my BR.... positive that my Ameraucanas have never produced one. I don't get them often from any breed (it is not a good thing to get double yolkers often) and have only gotten a few from the WL. I would not say that WL are prone to give them more often. Usually I get a double yolker when someone has stopped laying and started back.

If you are getting double yolkers often..... you might not get a bird that will not lay for long. My WL are over 2 years old and still lay an egg for about 10 days straight before they take a break.

So far my LH seem friendly enough. Its preety tough to catch them.So i decided not to try and hold them.I have my bantam cochins for petting if i want to.
The LH dont mind being around me and i can be within a foot of the cage and they just do theyre thing. The bringing of Romaine lettuce to them, may be the trick. They are very happy to see me.
