White Leghorns

They say that b/c leghorns tend to be a bit more flighty. They are more food thrifty than the larger brown egg layers. I don't recommend the straight combed leghorns for cold climates, but the rose comb should do fine. I have my first rose combed brown leghorns this year. They are aloof, keep to themselves, and so far, they are quiet. Time will tell how well they fit into my mixed flock as adults.

CluckcluckLuke: I'm not fond of large single combs, but i have to say, your roo is impressive!!! How does he treat the ladies?

People say these birds are not for begginers? are they easy to care for? THANKS

We got six our first time through and were fine. If you're wanting to cuddle with your chickens, leghorns are not that great. Though they aren't the most docile chicken breeds, they are quite comedic. Since one turned out to be a rooster, we have 5 which he call "the white girls" or "white chicks" because we have an EE and a cochin. It also depends on the chicken like always. For example, we love our cochin dearly but she's not a cuddler, she'll whine and peck at you(not at your skin though). They're also fantastic layers. You would think them being skinny and white is boring but they are quite beautiful in the yard. Go ahead and get leghorns. It also depends on what you want out of your chickens, or if leghorns are the only ones, that was the case for us.

By the way, our smallest leghorn is named Amelia, she's quite a character.

Hello,

I am seeking WHITE ROOSTER FEATHERS for a project and wondered if anyone here has any to donate or sell. I am in Los Angeles. The breed does not matter, but they do need to be from a white rooster. Tail and wing feathers would be ideal. Thank you!
