White mess on hen’s backside

Well the old girl has been ok today, had a bit roam round the garden with the others. She has been eatinv ok, I sprinkled some layer pellets on the grass and she went straight for them, and has had a couple of cherries. Sometimes vets ate wrong

She is still with us, her @rse is manky again, and she spends a lot of the day just sitting. My daughter said she read a drop of molasses with water can cure constipation in hens, our local shop sells date or pomegranate molasses, which should I get, or is it not the right stuff to get?

Here molasses is made from sugar cane, and pomegranate molasses is a recent gourmet addition, I think. I’ve never heard of date molasses. Molasses has iron in it and assorted vitamins. Not sure about date or pomegranate.

Here is the info I’ve been looking for regarding a molasses flush. It was given to me by one of the best there is. Read what she had to say and see if you think you need to administer it. I’m not necessarily sure you do, but even if you decide against it you will have this procedure in your first aid arsenal. We all need all the help we can get. Good luck with your girl.

How about you give this little stinker a molasses flush? This will not only help flush her crop, but it will stimulate the intestines to move material more quickly on through. It's safe, and it will get some nutrients and fluids into her as a side bonus.

Mix one teaspoon of molasses in one-fourth cup warm water. Tube it down into her crop very slowly until it's all in, but if any liquid comes back up, stop. That's all the capacity she has. This is a good reason to take it slowly getting this mixture into her.

My long and drawn out thread where I got all the wonderful advice is titled “Hard Crop Not Clearing.” I’m sorry but I don’t know how to link the thread. I might could if I was on a computer, but I always just use my phone.

It is a bit funny that we are/were both dealing with a Speckled Sussex.

Mimi thanks for coming out with the mention of your thread where the molasses flush was tried for the first time and with such raging success. I have another thread where we are about to try the flush and I wanted to link to your thread but couldn't find it for the life of me! Here it is. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/hard-crop-not-clearing.1313179/

The way I did it was to click on your user name. Then clicked on your profile page, then clicked on topics started. That narrowed down the list of threads to only those you own. Click on the older thread we were wanting to link to, then when it came up, copy the URL at the top pf the page. Then paste it in the thread you were commenting in, and it will come up as a link after you post the reply.
