Hi, my wife has just found our runner duck trapped in a gap between 2 pallets and it appears the aylesburys have been attacking him, he has blood on his face but more worrying is the fact that his neck looks broken and is flooped over to one side.

He has been separated, wrapped in a towel and placed in a box in the house to keep warm and settle him down, can ducks recover from this???

If his neck is broken emergency vet care is needed. Is he coherent at all aware of his surrounding?

Hi, thanks for the quick replies,
he is much better, holding his head up, neck is ok but he does have a few dents in his beak.

I think he must have just been exhausted, flailing his head around trying to get out of the gap he was stuck in. He is in a quiet dark room with food and water and he is eating and drinking. :thumbsup

Thats so great he is doing better! Poor guy, must have been so scared!

Waterfowl necks are amazing, they can take quite a bit of abuse and heal up afterwards. If he can stand and walk or at least stand upright then there is hope. Sounds like a good pen check is needed to make sure there are no more places to get driven into and stuck and perhaps split folks up or get them into a much larger area or put in multiple shelters and feeding stations to get some space between animals. I'd pull the bully (bullies) next time and rotate folks around to keep the peace and hopefully keep things friendlier.
