Hello,
Only minutes ago I went outside to give my chickens and quails food and water, I went to the quails first since they usually dirty their water up easily and noticed there was some foamy-jello like white substance on their bedding,(which is hay), I thought maybe the hay got wet and started to mold so I was about to clean it out when I saw one of them actually poo out the white foam, I instantly got worried about it seeing as they were Perfectly fine yesterday, I picked up the oldest and tiniest of them all and turned him over to look at his bum and saw if I even lifted the tail up a bit the foam just started coming out! This is my first time with quails and no one in my town has quails or knows anyone with knowledge on them, I took the quail inside and what I am seeing-I cleaned out all the white stuff, at first it just looks like foam but when you touch it it feels almost solid and sticky, I put the quail back and picked another one up and he had the Exact same thing. Some of the quails are fluffing up and walking close to the ground and seem very sleepy, but I was just thinking that was because its cold and their light got left on all night due to me forgetting to turn it off, they will act sluggish and all but they are still playful and energetic here and there, they drink their water and food normally like the others, only a female and male are doing it, the other male and three females seem fine besides the white stuff coming out-though, are they sick? Is this a normal thing? I wouldn't think it would be a normal thing but then again I've never had quails.. If they are sick, is it a common sickness I can treat? Or is it deadly? I looked at my chickens to make sure it wasn't being passed around through the water/food, etc, and they seemed fine so as far as I'm seeing the quails are the only ones with it, the quails just started mating and one of the females just started laying eggs each day, their a bit late in the day, last night she laid her egg at 10 PM! Is there something wrong with my quails? I hope not.. We have two breeds of quails, Chinese and another breed I sadly currently forget the name of, the two Chinese quails seem to be maturing very quickly, the male is trying to mate with all the females and the female is the only one laying eggs. I do hope they're ok..
