White watery poop

A full crop...Just before roosting time, birds stuff themselves so they have enough calories to get through the night. All this food is stored in their crops, awaiting digestion. The crop is a pouch that holds this food and is located on the birds right side of their breasts. If you go up to the coop at roosting time, stand over the bird, beak facing away from you, and you run your hand down the right side of the breast, you should feel a bulging crop full of food. You can compare hers to the others to judge fullness. This same crop should be completely empty by morning. Crop checking is a great way to monitor health. If they are empty at roosting time, or still full in the morning, something is definitely wrong.

Hmmm this might be harder for me to judge because I actually keep water and food in their house at night, but I will check tmr night!!

Start by checking tomorrow night at roosting time to make sure she is eating. Diarrhea can even stem from not eating enough. We need to know that she is in fact eating enough food.

And FYI, there are only a few strains of cocci that cause blood in the poops. If your bird is acting normal, it's not as much of a worry. But it doesn't hurt to treat with Corid regardless.

So this is the second day on the ACV. I have tried giving her some yogurt but she didn't want it. I haven't seen her poop yet but will look again before I tuck them in. She is acting normal. I have seen her drinking and eating.

Sometimes it is not easy to diagnose why they have diarrhea. Many things can contribute to it from a slight imbalance in the intestinal tract, bacterial, viral or fungal infections, stress, chilling, over heating, the food or water, their treats, etc...the list is long. I have a couple of birds that will take loose sometimes. Their systems do put out loose stools sometimes during the day only. I have never been able to figure out how to stop this. I have found that the best time to judge poop is the poop you find under the roost bar from over night. The birds have digested mostly chicken feed, they have been sleeping and not stressed about things, they are quiet and not doing much. This poop seems to be their average output. During the day they may be eating treats, running from predators or what ever it is that keeps them hyper all day. If they are leaving solid stools over night, but still leave some loose ones during the day, I don't get too concerned. But when I find lots of liquid stuff off the roost bar, this is when I need to do something or at least try and figure out what is going on.

Chicks this age can be afraid to try new foods. Once they age a bit, the eat everything first, then ask questions later. LOL Do they like hard boiled eggs? You can try putting some yogurt on some eggs or something else you know she or they will eat.

Keep up with the ACV and it never hurts to get some probiotics to keep on hand. My birds get probiotics a couple of times a week in their water. Helps with digestion and helps to ward of pathogens.

They LOVE eggs!!!

When I get the chance I will go to the feed store to get a bunch of medicines to have on hand and probiotics:) Do you have any medicines you think I should get?

Thanks you!!! I'll look:)

If you can get any Duramycin 10...it is a broad spectrum antibiotic that takes care of many respiratory ailments and intestinal bacteria's. Also, Sulfadimethoxine (antibiotic you may need to order on line) Most feed stores carry Probiotics too. It never hurts to have Corid on hand. Wormers like Safeguard Liquid Goat wormer or Safeguard Equine paste wormer. You will need these once or twice a year. Empty syringes are used a LOT. Acidified Copper Sulfate or even vaginal creams to be used orally, (I know that sounds weird, but they work VERY well for yeast/fungal infections like Sour Crop and Vent Gleet). Dolculax stool softener, (docusate sodium 100mg), works well to clear out impacted crops and gizzards. Check out my article in my signature on Slow and Sour crops for a homemade recipe under Doughy Crops. This will clear out the WORST impaction in 24 hours. Baytril is wonderful to have on hand, but you will need to order this on line. And of course the ACV.

These are my go-to meds. LOL I am sure I have other stuff in my cabinet that I forgot is even there. LOL

Guys!! I have GREAT news!!! I just went out to watch Stir Fry and to see what her poop looked like and it's almost back to normal!! It's not watery at all! It's just a tad mushy but I think the ACV is really helping! I'll keep her on that for a few weeks!
