We have a blue speckled marans recovering from a fox attack 2 weeks ago. Astoundingly, I interrupted it just in time, the fox fled, and she had no injuries we could see; just missing feathers; but she couldn't walk at first and her wing was hanging oddly low- vet said nothing broken or otherwise concerning so we separated her from the flock, inside, and she has improved enormously and is outside during the day but the others attack her so still sleeping apart.
Because she has been in a bin at night, in bedding, not roosting (she couldn't jump up and still working on that) she got a poopy vent which I just washed-in so doing I noticed something hanging from her vent-looks like a tiny sausage casing-whitish, 2" long or so, with some segments (like sausage links.) It didn't seem to be painful but I don't know what it is-in reading posts I saw something about a "lash egg" (?) but don't know what that is.

Question 1:Could it be a shell-less egg that collapsed inside her vent? (She has laid several good solid eggs in the past few days.)
Question 2: is it dangerous for her?

It's 6:30 on a Friday (vet just closed for weekend) of course.
She has done so well in recovering and I'd hate for her to have more problems.
Any thoughts much appreciated

It isn't a tapeworm is it? Not sure if I should try to pull it out.
Hi! Can you post a picture? I would dose her with calcium citrate. And make sure she's eating well.

I went to take a photo and it was gone. Couldn't find it in the bedding. I'm guessing it was the membrane of a shell-less egg? She's fine, no sign of distress.
She is definitely eating well-layer feed plus a few BOSS treats and some greens; she was outside all day in a greenhouse so she was pecking at grass and bugs.
Curious for future ref. though-what does calcium citrate do?
thanks!

Whether it was a soft shell or tapeworm, it broke off and your hen ate it.
All you can do is observe her for a couple of days and look for anything out of the ordinary.
If she has tapeworms, you will see tapeworm segments in her feces, that's what you need to look for.

Could be tapeworm. Google and compare the pictures to what you are seeing.

will do. thanks very much. (I have been scooping her poop daily since she has been sitting in the bedding while unable to jump to a roost. I have seen no evidence of anything odd but I will make sure I look up what a tapeworm looks like so know what I'm looking for.
appreciate the help.

Smiya reply:
Calcium citrate helps to move egg and egg material out with the magnesium and boosts calcium levels for stronger shells ( faster then oyster shell)

Here's what tapeworm segments look like:
