Who all raises pigs ?

How do you market your lard? What do people use it for? I'd love to be able to sell some around here!

Do you have any Amish in your area? My Amish neighbor would love to buy your lard for baking. Unfortunately I am in southern Missouri so that would be a little far.

Hi everyone,
this is my first year raising pigs. I bought chickens so I could feed the extra eggs to the pigs.
So far no one is laying yet.
I bought 3 Tamworth piglets in May, and hope to have them at market weight in November.

They are a slower growing breed and are in a pasture with lots of weeds a few black walnut trees and some grape vines. And a lot of other trees, wild black berries etc.
I also feed them fermented corn grain mix and pig pellets.
I plan to finish them on a strict diet of acorns, walnuts, hickory nuts, apples, and pumpkins and of course eggs (hopefully)
I will keep one for my family, give one to the butcher in exchange for his services, and sell the 3rd to recoup my investments.

So far this has been a great experience I can't believe how easy it has been .

I chose Tamworth because they will be super ugly come harvest time, and hopefully I will not cry too much. lol

I love pigs, I want guinea hogs for our homestead. I have read that they are great for snake control
