Who all shows their dogs?

I have a retired and spayed Bulldog, who I showed until she got her championship. Will show her again at the Bulldog Nationals in the Veteran class when she is eligible. Bulldogs are definitely not the breed you want. Years ago (when they were considered rare in the US) I owned and showed Rottweilers. They would be a breed to consider, but they are so overbred now, and have some serious health issues (lots of cancer) I won't get one again.

The dog I DO love and will get again in the future, is another Bullmastiff, or possibly a Tibetan Mastiff. Lucas, in my avatar, is the best, most solid, smartest, full of common sense, funniest easiest to train dog I have ever had the honor to own. He has been a therapy dog for four years - just retired because he lost his right eye to glaucoma. So sad for all of us. He is a very special guy.

Bulldogs are sweethearts, but b/c of their breathing issues in the Tx heat I just don't think it's fair. I want something that can run and play with the danes (supervised of course.) My mom's good friend has a Bullie and she is a sweetheart for sure.
As far as Rotties I would love one one day (one of the many of the working group, but my husband is one of the many who think negatively about them (as if a dane has never attacked anyone.) And, I agree 100% about their health issues...but what breed doesn't have them. Danes are plagued w/them, but it's worth it to me, you know?
And, I am in touch w/an excellent Bull Mastiff. I was offered a young girl who is 1/2 finished w/1 of her majors (7 pts total) but I turned her down b/c of my current mid-move situation. I do like them alot really. I could definately see me owning one or more

My grandparents always had a Great Dane while I was growing up; they are wonderful dogs.

TibetMas. will be a grooming challenge to be sure. My first dog to own and show was an Old English Sheepdog.......what a horror to groom as I'm sure you know! But, like anything else, you and the dog get used to it. Plus, I doubt I'd show in conformation anymore, so other than brushing, bathing, nail grinding, ears, in other words, normal maintenance, just the brushing will be a daily duty.

Good luck in your search.

If you register/show with UKC then American Pit Bull Terrier
If you register/show with AKC then American Staffordshire Terrier

I'd love to have a Am Staff, or a Staffy Bull, but w/all the paranoia here in SE Tx my husband is too worried about me getting one & someone causing me trouble b/c I get enough trouble w/danes as it is. Anything mastiff/pitty is just trouble down here...well pretty much anywhere from what I gather these days. But I, personally, love them & think they are beautiful.

ooohh and the alpha blue blood bulldog too...like those.

I saw the post about your hubby not liking Rotties...and thought...he won't like the Pitties either! Depends where you are...I live near Houston (actually kinda near Madisonville...and they just banned APBT from city limits...illegal, but they did it) I know people whose neighbors and or family give them crap about owning a dangerous breed! Where I am my neighbors don't really care, but I actually wonder how many know I have him!?!? To top it off I have a springpole (fighting equipment) in my backyard. (I don't fight, but they raided a fight a few weeks ago and the media claimed the springpole was a fighting device used to strengthen the jaws)

I have Siberian Huskies. We show in conformation, obedience and DH has just started training one of our dogs for rally. It looks like sooo much fun I'm thinking of doing it too! Siberians are definitely NOT a "what can I do for you" breed!
