My 16 week old Easter Egger named Maggie is literally “that friend” of her flock. She’s not the top girl, but she’s not the bottom either. Out of my whole flock of 13, she’s probably the most entertaining one of them all. Even when she was younger she was that same way. Before they stayed outside, we would take them to the run that we built to let them peck & scratch. When it started getting into the evening time right before the sun starts setting, Maggie would squawk her head off until we brought them back inside. You couldn’t even have a conversation because of how loud & constant she was. Trying to take a picture of certain chooks? Maggie photobombs it by walking, or usually running, through. Hear a squawk? There goes Maggie, darting & weaving through her flock mates. Trying to feed berries to everyone? Maggie comes & snatches the berry then swallows it whole. She’s usually the first one to run up to us at the run if we or the cats & dogs are doing anything around it. Just staring & investigating. Her flock mates get after her a lot of the time especially during treats. I always make sure to give her a little extra, just because she’s so sweet & I love her. She literally acts like the world is about to end the way she runs around, always in a hurry. That’s just Maggie & I wouldn’t want her any other way.

I have several spastic girls in my flock so it’s hard to pick just one but this girl to me is the most entertaining. She is an Ancona, who is VERY energetic she doesn’t walk..she either runs or bounces!or jumps in the air randomly. She instigates all the happy play among my other birds. She is very smart too because when it’s time to put them away for night she is the last to be caught, she tries to play with me WHILE I’m trying to catch her, then runs away stops looks at me then happily bounces away if I get too close. She is not the least bit afraid of people and I can’t sit down to take pics without her face in the lens first! I named her Trilly for her unusual musical tones that my other Ancona’a don’t have.

Awww! 🤣 that’s so sweet!
Chickens are so entertaining and fun, aren't they?! :D
yes! I’m so happy we got them! I’ve been diagnosed with depression for a while now..... who needs a service dog when you have chickens?! I’m so gaga over mine! I have 9 new chookies coming this week. 😁

Enjoyed reading about Maggie! I have one entertainer , a white sultan. The rest of the flock(13) fortunately puts up with her antics as she is the smallest. 🐓

I had little Oz. Oz was a light brahma hen, on the older side and she was one of three hens left behind at the place we bought. Meg the orphington was nothing special, and we had to put the other brahma down.

Oz was an absolute freak. She was anxious, didn't like the other chickens, didn't like me. They bullied her for a while, and then she changed...

She'd leave the coop at top speed, screaming at the top of her lungs. The other chickens would stand back, starting at her like they had no idea what was wrong with her.

She'd pace the fence, then bolt out as soon as I opened the run and spend her day wandering alone, chasing grasshoppers.

There was only one time she was friendly. The first time she molted, I made note of it in the morning but she was acting normal. Until it was time to go to bed. I went out to watch them file in and shut the doors, when Oz, squawking up a storm, bolted away from the coop and dove into my skirt.

She buried her head in my arm when I picked her up, and my heart broke. Do I did what any chicken crazy lady would do and let her stay inside until everyone was asleep.

Oz changed me. This spastic chicken that never let me touch her still went to me when she wanted safety and comfort. After that, I knew that just because they seemed scared of me doesn't mean a chicken doesn't know I will take care of them.

I lost her to old age, she never really let me touch her again, but I loved the little spazz.
