Who else hates being addressed as Ms

I like being called MS, I am not defined by weather or not I have a "man" in my life.

Yes Sir, No Sir, Yes Ma'am, No Ma'am - I was raised that this was just the proper and respectful way to address someone, so I have no problems with Ma'am. And if I remember my grammatical English lessons, I believe the proper way to address a letter (remember those?) to an unknown person is "Dear Sir or Madam:".

What I hate more than anything is for a stranger, sales clerk, wait person, etc. to call me Honey, Missy, Sweetie, etc.

I am surprised at how many people thing Ma'am and Sir make you sound old. I was trained by my military parents to always say them. And to never call an adult by their first name. I am 22 and STILL have an issue with calling people older than me by their first name. If they say "call me Susan" as opposed to Mrs. Insertlastnamehere I ask if I can compromise and say Mrs. Susan. Just, it is so ingrained into my mind, it feels disrespectful not doing it.

Sometimes the Ms. and Miss thing can be confusing if you don't know enough about the person to know what to say, Miss should always be default, though, until you know otherwise.

I hate being called Ma'am. It makes me feel old. Probably the same reason for her, I know a lot of women don't like it. Having said that, I would never give a guy a hard time for it, it is traditionally respectful, but I do *silently* cringe.

Ok, ma'am. I won't call you ma'am, ma'am.
