Who else is setting... I wanna see pics!

Do IT!!!!!!

Come to the DARK SIDE!!! Be insane! Prove you're addicted and PROUD!

I did.

The sooner you do it, the less likely they'll need heat for long...

It's just a few chicks...

They'll be adorable.

You know you want to.

You really should see what she's producing.

How else are you going to find out????

Awww come onnnnnnn...

Luke, come to the Dark Side....

Ok - If I get done cleaning the upstairs and finish painting the new addition, I will set eggs from Stubby and Sunny. Sunny is a splash smooth cochin and I believe the awesome feathered feet come from her. She is so heavily feathered on her legs and feet it looks like she doesn't have legs.

I know her eggs also. She lays chubby fat brown eggs and Stubby lays chubby fat white eggs.

pjb is back!!!!! oh yeah....setting eggs...welcome my lost friend....

I sold that other chick with the awesome feet on Craigslist last week

The odd thing is that the lady who e-mailed me and wanted them ended up living about 2 blocks away and these are her first chickens. It's kind of cool that I live in a good sized metropolitan area and my chickies went to somewhere I could easily walk to.

I will soon have the whole neighborhood filled with chickens and the man who keeps calling animal control on me will either have to join in or move.

MUHAHAHAHA!

Going to paint now. This part is easy - all the edges are done and it's just the second coat.

I borrowed an incubator from a friend (mistake #1)
she included 13 quail and 5 Olive Egger eggs (they probably won't ALL hatch right?

)
current total:5 chicken eggs/13 quail eggs

then I went to pick up feed and the lady said, "oh you're starting a batch in the incubator? let me grab you some eggs" (+2 more eggs)
current total: 7 chicken eggs/13 quail eggs

then I went to look at a lady's farm and see her pullets. "here take these" +12 more fertile hatching eggs
current total:19 chicken eggs/13 quail eggs

then I went to pick up 6 special eggs from a breeder that I'd planned on before this all happened and she gave me 8 instead plus 4 white bobwhite quail eggs
current total:27 chicken eggs/17quail eggs

then I saw some eggs on ebay and though 6 would be fine... the box arrived with 28 fertile hatching eggs in it!!
current total: 55 chicken eggs/17quail eggs

Before that last box arrived I had ordered 8 others and they arrived today with 8 extras!

What I planned on: 23 chicken eggs/6 quail eggs
What I ended up with: 63 chicken eggs/17 quail eggs

If you do that math you'll note that the little giant isn't giant enough for all of those eggs!! I currently have the freshest eggs in a climate controlled area and in 2 days I'm going to candle what is in the bator and removed those that aren't developing and then replacing them with the 'overstock'

Even with selective reduction I HAD TO ORDER COLORED LEG BANDS!!!

I currently have the following eggs in hand
13 Corturnix quails/in
4 White Bobwhite quails/in
5 maranacauans/in
1 EE X/in
1 Cuckoo Marans cross/in
8 Standard tufted/rumpess Araucanas/in
6 Seramas/waiting for a spot
2 silkies/waiting for a spot
1 Jungle Fowl/in
1 Polish X/in
1 Pappiseed/ in
9 Bantam tufted/rumpless Araucana
5 Polish cross/won't go in

I put 12 Ameraucana X Polish straight into the fridge. Lol!

The rest are waiting. I don't know what I'll do if all the eggs in the bator on developing on schedule!! Did I mention that I live on 1/10th acre in the city and was only planning on keeping 2-3 hens???? Ahhhh!!

BUILD A LARGE FOAM INCUBATOR and you better hurry. MissPrissy's example is easy to repeat - super cheap to build and if you get the HUGE foam Ice Chests - holds a TON of eggs cheaply.

We have a beautiful Buff Orpington that has gone broody. She is only 9 months old, and is sitting on 8 eggs - some hers, some from her coup mates...very exciting!

All mine are amazing what'sitgoing to be eggs.

The current possibilities are:

The first hen is a Blue Sizzle. The Roos are a Splash Sizzle, a Blue Red smooth sizzle or a Delaware.

The second hen a Delaware.

The third is a black sizzle but so far her eggs are not appearing fertile, I'm still starting them all for a few weeks to see if I can get anything from her, she's a favorite.

Whatever comes out should be a hoot, I just couldn't resist. There are three mixed chicks under a broody that just hatched, partridge rock delawares and one tiny black chick with what looks like brown or red around it's comb - lol could be blue red sizzle to barred rock from the look of it.
