I got 1 first egg from one of my golden sex links on Wednesday (then again Friday, nothing since), then I got one from my buff orpington today! So I have 3 of 10 starting to lay!

I'm super excited the girls have been doing well for a couple of weeks slowly more have begun to lay although I think most of the girls are still laying intermittently. However today we got seven hard shelled perfect eggs and one soft shell under the roost that I think was a first egg from one of my Isa Browns, Tap Tap,(who's been running around all day singing like a crazy bird lol). She was injured about 2-3 weeks ago quite a bad cut to her foot that bled a lot and I think it put her a bit behind her sisters but hopefully it means she has finally caught up we'll see. On a side note we sold three 20 week buff Orpingtons Saturday and they think one is a roo. But we never saw any signs. Should a buff Orpington roo be obvious before 20 weeks?
Can't wait to find out how many eggs we'll get tomorrow! I tell ya I may be out there singing with the girls I'm so proud. We have almost 3 dozen eggs from our girls in the fridge and we gave away our first dozen Friday. We've eaten easily two dozen. Now we just need to work on the egg size. We have had two very large eggs(I'm guessing jumbos) one we gave away was a double yolker thinking the other is too. However most of the eggs we're getting are still quite small I'm guessing small or peewee lol

Record amount of eggs today!! 17 out of 29 ... Most we have had yet! Hopefully the other girls will start laying too. Beginning of the week we only were getting 12-15

In a pen of 23 pullets and 1 cockerel, with ages ranging from 19-23 weeks, this morning we found what we are pretty certain is the First Egg in their sand box.

We say "pretty certain" because we were waiting to see the first activity before setting up boxes and we have been very thorough in our daily hunt for that first egg.
Today will entail a trip to town for plywood and a busy afternoon.

Not real big but a lovely first effort.

Pullet eggs may be small generally, but when you finally get that first one, it's an OCCASION!

My Silver Cuckoo Marans Summer, exactly 20 weeks old, just graced the favorite nest box with her first egg. This is after weeks of singing the egg song and teasing me with numerous visits to the nest boxes. It's not exactly the deep chocolate brown the breed is supposed to promise, but I'll take anything at this point.

Sadie is a cockerel. Brahmas can be very, very slow to mature. Frequently, the cockerels don't look like cockerels until well after 16 weeks old.

We got the first egg 4 days ago and haven't gotten another one since then. Is this typical, when a hen first starts laying? Once I got the first egg, I expected another one every day or two.
