I play the djembe too! And also frame drum - I love it. Now I have to look up zills aha! They look like fun, do you bellydance??

yep I do... taught for over 35 years too.
.. so are you saying the zills were a give-away?

I find the djembe a bit challenging because in a lot of the african rhythms you're using several drummers each playing a part of the rhythm to make up the whole pattern... splitting a rhythm up into shares like that takes some concentration, I'm used to playing the whole rhythm myself.

I only started on the djembe...love the sound of it. But I also love the turkish/gypsy sound too, the gypsyness of it

I've only been hand drumming since Dec of last year. My inner drumness has evolved, and I'm looking at all primal kinda like music, drumming being # 1. I love the bellydance music too.

Since I'm new to the djembe, I'm not too particular to "how to really do it" (although that is very important) as to just feel it and let that go .........Babatunde Olatungi is a good influence for me for instance. I guess just jamming is good too. Sharing the sound with others.

Flutes. I started to play djembe a bit for a while but then made several moves and just never went back to it. Anyway, it needs tuning in the worst way. But, primarily, I'm a vocalist.

I played the alto sax in HS. Picked it back up for the marching band at boot camp, and have been thinking about joining the pep band that plays at the roller derby games here... Its not fun to play by myself, and that may be a good excuse to pick it back up! I'm actually waiting for a friend to get off work and we're going ukulele shopping... being recently single I figure its the perfect time to make horrible noises in my house!

I had every intention of learning to play the guitar. But, I never got around to taking a single lesson. However, I do play the bagpipes!

I always wanted to learn to play an instrument and took music in school as a kid (when music was still taught in the public schools). However, I always ended up turning in my instrument in despair because somewhere along the line in my head, even though I was a very bright student and quick learner, I just couldn't read the darn sheet music! I took 6 months of violin and 4 months of clarinet but tanked at both due to my inability to read the music.

The only thing I am really good at playing now is the stereo.
