Who else was on lockdown 9/5-9/9? (Post your Hatch Round-ups!)

This is my brain on stress: the air cell is in the LARGE end, not the small (I edited my original post--you were right, emily's guppies--I had it wrong). Here are some other things I've said just in the past 24 hours: "My husband is putting the beds to kid." And, "I'm holding the goat's lap in my head."

Ack. I really think I need a new head. Anyone got extra brain cells to sell? Will trade fertile duck eggs for brain cells!!

kaffleck--I can't wait to hear how your first hatch goes. There are so many things to keep track of when hatching, the first batch is usually less than perfect (at least, mine was), but I'm sending you happy good hatch vibes!!

Thanks, Chicky Tocks--I'm so excited he still seems to be moving around. He responds every time I look in the bator. Gives me something to look at while I check obsessively for pips (none yet).

Fortunately, I'm taking the kids to the park for several hours this afternoon. It will keep me away from the incubator.

Thanks iamcuriositycat. It was my first candling attempt too with a homemade job with a torch and a cardboard box. I only got to see 1 move, another with veins, and another which just looks like a black mass with an air sac so hopefully a chick. The torch wasn't overly strong! My guess is that the cockerel has too many girlfriends and prefers the randier ex-batts to his much more beautiful dorking partners!

Well, 9/19 have hatched! I have 4 broody hens now! One hen has 6 chicks but I missed my chance to take a good picture, will take one tomorrow. Another hen has 2, one is still fluffing up but here are some pictures of the fluffed up chick. This hen doesn't mind me handling her chicks at all she's very calm since I've picked her up every day that she's been broody.

Hello little chick!

I gave the chick some chick crumbs and showed it how to eat them. Her mother showed her how to drink.

What's going on in here then!?

Will have to get a picture of the hen with 6 chicks tomorrow morning.

Have only had one hatch in my incubator so far, slipped it under the 6 chick hen. I still hear 4 eggs pipping so hopefully I will reach my goal of 12/19.

This is better than christmas, can't wait to get out of bed tomorrow.

Oh goodness, I almost missed the pip party!

I have 2 pips right now (day 21 officially begins at 8:30 this evening) - they're Blue/Black Cochins from BYC member PeepsInc.

I started out with 9 eggs. 3 were scrambled in the mail, 2 never developed, and I had 1 blood ring on day 7, leaving me with 3 viable eggs. I had a freakish humidity spike during the end of week 2 that I was sure killed one of them (it looked strange and fuzzy when candled, not like the others) but I left it in the 'bator and crossed my fingers. Now it's one of the ones pipping!

The third egg that hasn't pipped yet is peeping and rocking around like crazy - so, I'm hoping for 3 chicks in the morning!

This is my first time incubating, and these will be my very first chickens! I'm so excited!

Oh my goodness! So much chicky sweetness going on!! I love the chick peeking out from under the hen, and the adorable group of fuzzy white ones. Where are my babies???

Still no pips. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. They are due Monday, although they were set early in the day, so I was sort of expecting a few to hatch out late on Sunday. They may still, I suppose.

Maybe some pips tomorrow...

The crushed egg baby is still moving.

Oh the cuteness overload!!! I can hardly wait for my own fuzzybutts to hatch.

Still nothing going on here except random rocking but it's just here and there. I saw the beak move inside the egg that pipped, so that's good too.
