Who else was on lockdown 9/5-9/9? (Post your Hatch Round-ups!)

Those kiddo pictures are TOOOO cute.

Thanks to everyone who has made this pip party awesome.

I hope everyone has plenty of fuzzy cuddliness to tide them over for now. I'd love to hear your hatch round-ups!

My hatch is now pretty much over, though a few unpipped eggs will stay in the bator for a couple days just in case. Here's my round-up:

Set 13 Indian Runner duck eggs on August 10. Twelve eggs made it to lockdown on 9/4.

Hatch began with a pip on 9/6 (AM) and finished (I believe) with a hatch on 9/8 (late PM).

9 of the original 13 hatched successfully (69%). Of those, one duckling was helped out and appears to have a leg problem that may correct itself (61% healthy ducklings).

Of the hatched eggs: 4 blacks, 4 blues (3 of which are genotypically not precisely blue), 1 yellow.

Interesting genetic outcome of this hatch: Five ducklings are blue/blue cross, which, statistically, should produce 25% black, 50% blue, 25% silver. For this hatch, it produced 80% black, 20% blue (the one truly genotypically blue hatchling).

I also learned that a blue drake crossed with a fawn & white hen produces two colors: a pale blue (probably the result of one blue dilution gene like the usual blue color, but only one extended black--regular blue has two extended black genes & one blue dilution) with yellow breast, and a yellow duckling (mature color not yet known, probably genotypically two blue dilutions and one extended black). It makes sense for there to be only two color types from this cross, as there is only one genetic marker that can be different in the offspring, which is the presence of either one or two blue dilution genes.

Round-ups anyone? Are you happy with your hatch? How are your babies doing? Any final pictures? I'll post more here as soon as all my babies are in the brooder.

I got chicks! Woo hoo! So far I have 4 hatched and one zipping. The other 2 eggs have nothing yet...I think they probably went bad, but I'll wait and see. This is so exciting!
How long does it take them to dry in the incubator? The kids can't wait to take them out. They're so cute. Ill try and post pics of my baby bbbs orps.

I'm halfway through day 22 and no sign yet of the other 2 eggs hatching. No peeping, pipping, rolling, zipping. One was still alive at day 17 when I candled last. Can't believe it may have died between now and then. Will give them another 36 hours. So one lonely chick so far but it's getting lots of cuddles. I may be able to pick up a week old banty chick to keep it company.

Okay, here's my picture of fuzzy cuteness. Chance, the crippled duckling, is in this picture, but you can't see him--he's under the yellow duck, lol. There are nine ducklings total, though only seven are clearly visible.

And here's Chance. I'll post him in his own thread too, because I want ideas on how to help him. The leg stretched behind him stays stretched behind. He uses it for balance, and to push himself out of tight spots, but he can't seem to get it up under himself.

Woo-hoo, Kyliekobe!! Where are the pictures??? They should dry out within an hour or two, for the most part. I want pictures!!

kaffleck--I'm sorry to hear about your other eggs, and your lone chick. Definitely go get another baby to keep it company! I had one egg die between Day 24 and hatching (which began on Day 29). It can definitely happen--heck, they can die after pipping and before hatching. I'll hope for the best, but it sounds like the chances are slim that they'll hatch.

I'm sorry!!

Oh, Cetawin--so many colors!! So beautiful! Thank you for the awesome pictures.

I am surprised at the lack of variety in my ducklings this time--4 out of 5 of my blue/blue cross ducklings were black, and one was blue. No silvers!

And then of the blue/f&W cross ducklings, most are apparently blue (with a yellow bib) with one yellow.

So just looking at the brooder, it looks like 4 blacks, 4 blues, 1 yellow.

I think they will are beautiful anyway.

Some really cute pics. Iam good luck with Chance's leg.

I've just gone ahead and opened up the last 2 eggs since I was pretty sure by now that they were done with. Started with a hole in the top just in case they weren't. Turns out #3 was long expired! Mostly yoke with an eye and a bit of glob. Looks like the yoke had burst and since my candling skills weren't the best that's what made it 'look full of something' that I had written into my notes. It was very stinky!

#4 (the one that had candled the best and been moving the last I time I looked or so I thought) was a big chick. I'll post pics in another thread. It hadn't pipped.

So round up being:
Out of 7 eggs 4 were infertile (I thought 2 had died but nope, just yokes on opening), another expired early, 1 died near hatching, and 1 made it all the way. I've another 7 eggs due to arrive tomorrow from a breeder which I hope to have more luck with. My last run for this year.

And I'm still working on getting a friend for Fluffy who I truly hope is a She so that She can stay and be part of the family since she's my first ever hatchling.

Here's some pics of my babies! I hatched 5 out of 7 blue/black/splash orpington babies...not bad for my first time, right? I'm so happy/nervous for them....I can't sleep!

Anyway, here goes...
