Who got hit REALLY hard today?

Im only a few hours south of you and we got nothing but high winds and rain, go figure. I couldnt figure out why all the schools up there were closing. I removed the tarp from my run last week. I knew the high winds and snow were sure to take it down. I plan to construct a sort of "patio" outside the pop door to the run with a sloped roof so the snow can slide off, not blow inside when the door is open and give them a little area to get out even if they dont want to go into snow or rain.

Yeah it was a mess this morning. We plan to recover the top with welded wire, so the snow can fall threw.

the farmers almanac has said it should be a cold wet snowy winter. Im very suprised at how not cold it is in my coop when its 40 outside and the wind is ripping. Funny thing is I came back from town earlier and the main door to the coop had flown open ( I let them have the whole shed when they have to stay in) and there they were inside looking like they had no intention of going out.

It's been VERY windy here the past 2 days, no snow, but that lovely wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet and an occasional flake. About 40 degrees for highs with much lower wind chills.

DH and DS spent the other day preparing for this by stapling 6 ml heavy plastic sheeting to the coop and run. The girls have spent the last 2 days outside, draft-free and fairly warm.

All I had today at 10 am was a spit of wetish snow, very light (it was even hard to tell if it was reallys now or not)....then it sprinkled on and off all day with very minimal gusts of wind. Nothing dramatic here which im glad about because my hubbys on night shift out in the weather (he's a driller in training) and my moms at some church meeting with her bosses wife so im glad it's not as bad as you are having it gah! I heard about it on the news but i had no clue how bad it was!!!! Wow!
We're on the top of a mt too so it's so goofy to hear how bad you got it while we barely got anything...then again my mom always says taht the mts baffle out a lot of the storm.

Sorry it's miserable for you folks in the east. We are having a beautiful Indian summer - it's been in the high 60's - low 70's here with nothing but sunny skies. That's the forecast through Saturday, then it's supposed to turn nasty on Sunday.

I couldn't believe it this morning i got up and the bird house roof was white as was the chicken coop. I am in NC folks way down next to Ga. That reached all the way down here. We had wind too. Not as bad as some and no power outage. I do Have a wood heater for pleasure and power outages so I was using it anyway. But I have chicks in my brooder that are a little over a week old and would have had to move them next to the heater if it had gone off. It will be about 25 tonight. My young brahma hens that have always lived outside for their 5-6 months of age are sure getting this early for us.
Yes, the old farmers almanac did say a bad winter. So have the fruit and nut bearing trees. They were loaded this year. Jean

thank you for keeping the snow and bad weather. it allowed my m'law to go back home after 2+ weeks.
