Who is afraid of the dentist?

I have a healthy (or not-so?), fear of the dentist. I had to have so much work done on my teeth when I was a child that I really try to avoid the dentist now. I brushed my teeth and cavities were never an issue, I just had all sorts of things happen with my teeth that required specialists and things like that. We didn't find out until I was 11 that I had a genetic disorder that affects the teeth among other things. Luckily now I have pretty good teeth.

Yeah what insurance would that be?
Cuz everything has been sucking so....
I have Good medical but thats about it...so Im kind of screwed.
Hopeing that I wont ever need any sort of dential work done for a while

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of NM through our school district. It covers me and Steven until he is 25 or goes active duty, cleanings, fillings, crowns, x-rays, etc. My co pay is $20 my gold crown cost no extra either.

Wow thats cheap!

I had my tooth pulled at 9:20. They had a hard time and had to go and a fish out a hooked root. And it was right on a nerve. and I felt it the whole time! ughhh it was horrible. Had to be numbed 4 times and it still wasnt enough. Then a few hours later I had to go back because I thought I popped out my stiches.
I was bleeding all over. My jaw hurts from all the injections. After I got back I passed out for 2 hours. Now Im awake lolz

But still glad to get the sucker out. The cavity in it was so big that it was starting to get to the roots. Was shocking that it didnt bother me.

Depending how I am doing then I have to go back in Wednesday to get 2 teeth filled. Then I have to get my stiches taken out in a week.

My whole mouth was a complete mess 7 months ago. They couldnt even clean it because of the pain.
My mouth and gums are almost healed up now. I went to get my teeth cleaned a few days ago and I actually enjoyed every minute of it.
My mouth didnt bleed at all

It was my electric tooth brush that made everything better.

OMG your a dentist!!!

No really I have nothing agains't dentist. I actually feel sorry for them, having to deal with fraidy cats like me. I think most dentist's should be sainted.... they are very brave people in a hard profession.

Sometimes after I give an injection, on a very rare occasion, folks will say OMG!... to that I simply say, "No, you can just call me Dr. M, but yeah, people get me confused with Him all the time"....

Ah, dental insurance. It's worthless as far as I'm concerned. I have to have five crowns, and insurance doesn't even make a dent in the cost. Cleanings, yes, real work, no.

Most dental insurance will cover at least 50% of the cost of crowns... that's real $$.

BUT, There are insurance companies that are worthless

I have feared the dentist since kindergarten. I have fairly strait teeth, clean, and had one cavity. But my first teeth came in behind my baby teeth and my basby teeth had to be pulled. Not 5 minutes after I got back to school, the pain kicked in. And to add to that when I got a cavity pulled the dentist's assistant he went through my gums on the first shot! I haven't been back except to get my teeth cleaned.... that was what? Four years ago? Yeah, I fear the dentist.

Good question for Mahonri.

All of my old silver fillings are slowly but surely being replaced with the tooth colored kind. I have one silver one left.

Lead...

We sometimes use silver amalgams.

Mostly we do tooth colored fillings and crowns.

At my last dental visit, in July, I had to have one of those silver fillings replaced due to it breaking down and causing A LOT of pain. After the work was done I was still having pain, to the point that I couldn't chew on that side. So I consulted our resident BYC dentist and asked him how long I should expect to have the pain. He recommended trying Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste (and Listerine) to see if it helped... it did. And while it took a while for all of the sensitivity to go completely away, it did happen... and I will never use any other kind of toothpaste again... that stuff is wonderful. Thanks again, Mahonri!
