Who is afraid of the dentist?

TRUE!!!

Robin'sBrood :

At my last dental visit, in July, I had to have one of those silver fillings replaced due to it breaking down and causing A LOT of pain. After the work was done I was still having pain, to the point that I couldn't chew on that side. So I consulted our resident BYC dentist and asked him how long I should expect to have the pain. He recommended trying Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste (and Listerine) to see if it helped... it did. And while it took a while for all of the sensitivity to go completely away, it did happen... and I will never use any other kind of toothpaste again... that stuff is wonderful. Thanks again, Mahonri!

So glad you didn't need a root canal.

I guess I never saw anything to fear... we grew up in a home where from age 3 we went every 6 mo so its just old hat. My kids LOVE the dentist...which is weird but at least they dont fear him. They have even had fillings and shots and still like going to Dr Dave.

I like the dentist...or at least, the cleaning part or it.

I LOVE going for a monthly cleaning. This may sound funny, but I like the flavors of the fluorides they have, like orange (sometimes when they're cleaning out the flouride and ask me if it's all gone, I say it is when there's still a little bit left because it tastes so good!

LOL and my teeth feel so clean afterward.
I had about 4-5 teeth pulled out one time (because there wasn't enough space for other teeth to come in) and I was excited because I had never had my teeth pulled before and I was going to be given "laughing gas" and be put to sleep. It was fine except after they got pulled, my mouth was kinda sore but I ate lots of ice cream.

Lately one of my top teeth has been sensitive when I press down on it hard enough and I was really worried. I went to the dentist and they couldn't find anything.

I'm just glad it wasn't a big cavity or anything.
Also, I've had one really small cavity drilled. It was so small that they just numbed it and drilled it and I didn't really feel that much. But during the whole thing, I was shaking like crazy because I was worried that they would be drilling and all the sudden they would hit a nerve or something...

Oh and one time my mom set up an appointment at a local dentist for a certain amount of time for my sister to get her teeth sealed or whatever. They did half of her mouth, but then said that they "ran out of time to finish". My mom got really mad because she skipped work to set up an appointment for an hour or so, and before that time was up, they told her they ran out of time. My mom started an argument and one lady said rudely to her, "well if you don't like it then you can go somewhere else".

But anyway, I think that the dentist is OK and enjoyable...except when they tell you something like you have a cavity. Then you regret going back to get it fixed.

OMG your a dentist!!!

No really I have nothing agains't dentist. I actually feel sorry for them, having to deal with fraidy cats like me. I think most dentist's should be sainted.... they are very brave people in a hard profession.

Sometimes after I give an injection, on a very rare occasion, folks will say OMG!... to that I simply say, "No, you can just call me Dr. M, but yeah, people get me confused with Him all the time"....

Speaking of the novocaine(sp?)....

If I need work done that requires novocaine, I always insist as I'm sitting helplessly in THE CHAIR... "You can't do it unless you do the trick!!" And he'll play dumb and say he doesn't know what I'm talking about. That he doesn't know any tricks... but I swear, he's the only one that's been able to stick me with that stuff and I don't feel a thing!

The trick? He grabs the side of my mouth and starts shaking my cheek all over the place - only the Lord knows how he manages to hit his intended target! The best part is that I never feel it! I feel a little sore afterwards, but it's an amazing "trick"! That's the "love" part for my dentist in that "love/hate" relationship that I was talking about earlier.

My new dentist does that and I was amazed at the lack of pain there was in getting the shot. That is what I fear the most at the dentist.
