I have a FB page, and I have one for my farm. I don't have any friends online that I don't know personally in REAL LIFE. What I really like about FB is that I get a news feed that compresses almost all of my favorite websites since they all do FB pages and their updates roll right down my page. Keeps me from having to page through and weed through each individual site for their newest article or whatnot. I get the headlines from Rodale (a healthy/natural/positive living magazine), Food Democracy Now, Natural News, Environmental Working Group, Fouride Action Network, Slate.com, Seattle Tilth, Go For Hope Intl (my brothers mission organization), Small farm advocacy groups....you get the idea.
I also get the current projects and ideas from a group of other glass workers that I've traveled across the country to meet and go to conventions with. It's cool to see what they are doing and to share my projects and "talk shop". With 3 kids, 2 of them little, it can be absolutely impossible for me to have a conversation on the phone. They know when I dial and they automatically light up like a 3 alarm fire. Makes me CRAZY!
As far as family goes....well, I only have some family. I've made family out of my closest friends and I like it much better that way. And ya know, when someone is a bit of a blabbermouth all you have to do if take them off of your "feed" and their blabbing doesn't show up.
I'm not searchable by any means. Ya just can't find me. Keeps me from getting friend requests....which I like.
Knowing quite a few military families I'm able to see what they are up to and their kids (that are my kids ages) are doing. We can give each other some support which is cool. Skyping is a GREAT tool for anyone who has internet but not long distance calling. All you need is a webcam (as does the other person) and literally you can call anywhere in the world and talk to them face to face. FREE!! It's fantastic! I can talk to my neice and nephews when they are in Nicaragua on their missions. How cool is that?
***oh, and it derserves to be mentioned that there are quite a few chicken advocacy groups that have facebook pages and its a good place to find petitions and know when laws are close to being passed or about to be brought to ballots....to stay ahead of the govt scams as best as we can.
