Who is on your Spring "wish list" for new chicks?

Errmmm.....You do know that you can keep a multitude of different breeds together in the same coop, right? DH and I currently have 5 different breeds under one roof.

But, if you really wanted to by sly, tell the hubby that each breed must have its own coop and outdoor run, and that they must be kept in sets of six minimum for optimal laying. Oh! And to get the full benefit of each breed, each flock must have its own rooster!!!

That should keep him busy for quite some time!!

Ooooh, I am SO going to H.E Double Toothpicks for that!!

Yes, I do know that, Ive had an assortment of breeds at one point in time. But, Im a little on the picky side... I dont want them crossbreeding, and I want a couple roosters without any issues.

I've already got ee's and sl wyandottes for layers so I'm going to get some cornish x so I don't have to mess with processing birds that aren't worth their weight (literally) in meat.

Ooooh. I called "my" feed store and asked if they will be offering Welsummer when they start offering chicks in February and was told they have tried to get some for the past two years without success. (Apparently it's a "new breed" for the whichever hatchery the feed store uses.) Welsummer is the first one on my wish list.

I know I can get RIR and Barred Plymouth Rocks from them; I want to replace the two adolescent pullets my dachshund managed to kill.

I want a standard Cochin of any dark coloration. (Those are available through MyPetChicken.)

I'd like a Buckeye, but they're not offered through MyPetChicken - and I don't think I should order 25 chicks from a hatchery.

A dark Brahma, yeah.... that would be nice, too. And I think a Speckled Sussex is another I'd like to have.

My needs are merely ... ummmm... I guess I'm looking at good layers of brown eggs.... because those breeds are the ones I tend to go "oooooh" over the most. White eggs wouldn't matter. And I don't NEED eggs, I just want 'em. But I'm not interested in poofy poodles of the chicken world - sorry, silkie/frizzle/crested lovers! - just nice, solid, chickeny-y chickens. Cochins and Brahmas are about the fanciest for me.

Listen to me go on about this, as if I know anything at all! I just started this chicken thing with four chicks on October 2nd! But I did start the coop back in July......

Blue Plymouth Rocks and Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas from halo. Will hatch them, keep a couple of each and sell the rest. (will keep a Blue Rock rooster if Dutch keeps showing his behind--are you listening, Dutchie????)

I called Ideal this morning to see when I could place my order....not til mid January...sigh.

On my list is:

Bantams:
Self Blue, Porcelain and Blue Mille Fleur d'Uccles (I want mottled too, but need to find a BYC'er for that)
Blue Quail d'Anvers
Chocolate Old English

Standards:

Silver Laced Cochin
Mottled Java
Russian Orloff
Speckled Sussex
Black Sumatra
Cream and Gold Brabanter

and 4 Black East Indies ducklings.

I also want to get more eggs & chicks from chickygirl2 and TurtleFeathers

Eggs or chicks from silkieluver_07 (BO, Silkie & Cochin). And to get my name on some BYC'ers lists for Serama, BLRW, Blue/Splash Jersey Giant and Blue Call Duck eggs.

And then theres TSC's Chick Days in May!

well-I am thinking since these breeds are all Cold Hardy, I could do a couple of different Breeding Projects and have several Coops. lol (I am addicted, what can I say....)

25 Straight Run New Hampshire Reds- (I currently have 2 hens)- Extra Roos will fill the Freezer
50 Straight Run Barred Plymouth Rocks-(I currently have 5 hens)- Extra Roos will fill the Freezer
25 Straight Run Light Brahmas-(I currently Have a Roo & 4 hens) - Extra Roos will fill the Freezer

I don't think I need any sexlink chicks, (currently have 23+ hens) as I can hatch my own later. I have incubators & brooders, so any of my eggs could be hatched....

I was thinking about the Javas & Marans too though, and maybe I can find some, and add another project/coop (or 2)....Got plenty of Space....need more coops/Runs.

DBF wants Golden Duckwing Ameracaunas (I don't think they're gonna have THOSE at the feed store).
I want Barred Rocks! (inspired by Barbara). An EE would be nice too!

Great thread. It's fun to share chicken dreams!
