Quote: Hmmm, it turned out that I couldn't wait. I had 13 in the incubator running around, climbing over eggs and shells. They were getting hurt. I took them out about 2 P.M. and put them in the brooder. The incubator quickly returned to 99.5 degrees, and about an hour later another baby hatched. As soon as he dried I put him with the others in the brooder. They're all happy as larks walking and lying on their towel, eating and drinking to their hearts' content; life's good.
I'm leaving the incubator on until tomorrow just in case one of the ten eggs hatch, but I'm not expecting any of them to; however, you never know if you don't know how to candle them. Guess I'll see tomorrow.
I wish I knew if it would be possible to put the eggs from the Brower THI20 in egg cartons the last three days. If that could work, the world would go around a whole lot faster.
BTW, what kind of carton should be used, paper mache or styrophone?
I just candled the last 13 eggs-there were no pips in them today. I saw no movement into the air sacs either. So I carefully opened each one at the air sac end and checked them. Some of the darker ones that I couldn't see clearly into last week were dead and underdeveloped and stunk badly. Some of the others (about 6 or 7?) were ready but dead. I hate that part. I've warned all of my guys here to remind me next time not to help anyone in trouble b/c it has killed all the remaining eggs when I do that. I lost all 3 Cream Brabanters, and 2 Speckled Sussex, and 2 or 3 Silver Phoenix babies. I'm so bummed- but also glad about the 8 Speckled Sussex babies I do have and the 2 Silver Phoenix peeps I got. Boy are they tiny! I love those 2 little ones, they sing when we play the piano near them! They don't stop as long as the music is being played!
This is not for the faint of heart though! That's for sure!

Now waiting about 3 weeks for most of the rest of the eggs I've got incubating. 4 days for a few though as we had staggered hatches going.
The first 4 of my staggered hatch goes in the hatcher saturday. 4 mutt and standard cochins.
The next 9 get moved Tuesday and then my Gold Phoenix will follow on the 29th.
I am waiting my Blue/Black Orp eggs I have coming and those will be the last for awhile, unless the Egg Fairy puts more Mutts in the bator
