I have a pip!!

I lost 3 babies already:( I got the eggs and then later found out the lady was having issues with her chicken eggs.

They hatched out of the shell and died almost immediatly. I have 2 more pips:) or

And my other 3 boxes of eggs still aren't here.

I'm gonna assume they will not be viable after being in the mail a week.

We got no mail at all again today since the post office will not deliver during a flood even though we are high and dry out here in the country. I checked tracking and my eggs had made it to Des Moines on the 13th but that was the last update:( My poor eggs! My poor chickies!

Edit to add:

My eggs did arrive late this afternoon but they don't look pretty. One smelled really bad and i cracked it open and the inside was like a rotten hard boiled egg:( Yuck! I sure hope all of them are not like that. I can't see through all of them to candle as some are darker colors.

I have one lonely chickie cuddling up to a stuffed bunny and sound asleep now.

I hope everyone is staying safe, especially in the areas that nature is taking such a toll on.
Today is day 18 in my incubator here and I completely lost track! I am so happy to say my incubator is doing it's job while we've been preoccupied and my fingers are crossed for ANY hatch. We have been evacuated from our home since last Wednesday due to the Humboldt Fire - we live on Zinfandel Drive in Chico/Forest Ranch - and I have only been able to be here during the day to add water to keep the humidity up, and working with my outside pets to keep their areas wet/clear to increase their odds. I could not evacuate my 70+ chickens, 18 ducks, Llama, huge potbelly pig and the 2 pygmy goats who stayed home also. They were relatively safe in their living space (per the fire personnel) and we kept their outbuildings soaked. We had to stay in town, in our travel trailer, with the rest of the pets, who were just a bit freaked out. All in all, everything is fine at home - and now the hatching wait is back on - I have 10 Black Copper Marans, 8 Golden Comet, 2 Sizzles, and 1 Partridge Cochin eggs in the bator. The Frizzle eggs I bought on Ovabid never came, even though the seller said she "reshipped" them. Thats a $26 loss, but maybe I'll have some little ones soon anyhow!

I love this Forum!

Heres to Good Hatches! Please Post Pics!!

Stay safe! I wish we could send you some of our flood waters to fight the fires. What is wrong with this world right now? Floods, Fires, and Heat Waves!

I have a chick - hatched in the turner!!! Sitting there waiting patiently!!! It's a frizzle - I had forgotten - I had about 18 due out of the turner 2 days ago - I have a Black Rose Comb pipping and a OEGB Blue Splash peeping - so I guess being in the turner too long and power outage of 5 1/2 hours Sat did not hurt them!!!!

I had some pip on a turner before. They were to come off the turner that day and deceided to come early. I don't think you are a bad chick momma.

Day 32 on my guinea eggs and they finally pipped. But....I don't know why they didn't pip sooner as four died in the shell fully developed? I had to help the other five out and they are in the brooder now. A couple can make it to their feet but the others are still rolling around like they could have used a few more hours in the shell but the outer membrane was snow white and dry! I peeled the shell and wrapped warm/wet paper towels around the membrane till they could find the strength to kick out a bit. They are resting under the lamp now for the night. I pray they will be up by morning. I haven't put any water in as yet as some can't stand well yet and they might roll into the water? Blue orp eggs due by Friday!!!!!

Prayers to you with the flooding and to you all with the fires.

Hope everyone is high, dry, and safe tonight!
I'm hunkering down to watch 112 coturnix quail eggs tomorrow and Wednesday.

I've had bobwhites hatching every couple of days for the last month, so the novelty of that has worn off, but 112?!? That's a lot to watch. Still a week and a half away from the blue orp and red dorking hatch date.
