we had a pip, zip and hatch all in under 2 hours!! this is the first chick we have ever hatched here!!!

This chick is a one of a kind... it's egg was a rich "burnt sienna" - if you have crayons in the house, look it up.

Momma is a cuckoo Marans X EE, papa is an ameraucana roo. JD says that hens from this cross lay olive eggs...

...and now a little EExAmeraucana mix has hatched. Fairly blonde chick, very similar to the maransX, but no grey... VERY cute. Momma is being so good. She let me lift her up to get the empty shell out, and pull out the chick to see if it was ok. Looks like they both have all their toes and no abnormalities. And the silkie egg is a rockin' and a peepin', too.

It is an egg from a birchen hen (from Kentucky Silkies) crossed with a white roo (from Sassy silkies). This outta be good!!!

I have silkies indirectly from several BYCers!

Will post pics when I can... it's cold out there... too cold to be handling chicks for long.
I'm just wondering if I can save on a heat lamp and put the 6 other chicks out there with Elvis...
