Hopefully more... there's almost 70 eggs in there!!!

WOW I thought I had a big clutch (56) !!!! Yours is much bigger! Good luck!!!

I put 11 EE/Russian Orloff eggs under a broody BO on 4/1 and figured that they would be due to hatch tomorrow (4/22). When I went down to the coop after lunch today (4/21) I heard peeping. There under my broody is 1 cute little chick - one day early!

This is my first hatch. I got my other chicks as one week olds. I had to buy fertile eggs as I don't have a rooster - yet - or maybe I do now. time will tell.

I will try to get pictures soon - I don't want to disturb her since she still has 10 to go!

I am VERY new to chickens and have ordered my first batch or 24 from Ideal poultry which won't be here till MAY 23 but I was wondering if you all could tell me what Pipping and Ripping is? And can anyone tell me how to post to the main forum page? I can't seem to find a way to post a new topic

And that's just one incubator! There's another 20 eggs in another incubator (chicken and quail)

Hangin Wit My Peeps ~ pipping is when they first break the shell and poke their beak out. Zipping is when they take that first hole and start cracking all around so they can bust out. Kind of like unzipping a zipper.

Don't!!! Don't open it! Just sit on those hands, Missy! That's why I'm upstairs, checking the boards, instead of standing over that little guy cheering him on!!!

LOL.......no, don't worry I'm not opening it.

Doesn't mean I don't want to tho!! I'm pretty sure it's gone.....hasn't moved in a while and the beak just has that "look" about it. This will be the third chick in as many hatches that partially zipped and then died while others where hatching around them. Eggs from different sources too. It's puzzling!

I'm so sorry! I don't know why that would happen, unless the humidity is not right.
I know how you feel, though. I was told that quail pip/hatch within about a half hour... It's been 2 hours, and he sounds like he's getting weak. I want to open it so bad, but I'm not. *sigh* it's hard after all the waiting!

The humidity has been good. If it was that I'd think there'd be more having issues, but all three hatches there's been pipping and zipping going on all around them, so I'm not sure why they're having trouble.

Hmmm... I dunno.

I've had chicks that pipped, then sat for 19-20 hours before doing anything. That's the hardest part...

Hang in there!
