#3 is out. Chipmunk colored with eyeliner. Just what I expected Phoenix chicks to look like. Didn't know there would be white ones.

I HAVE 6 NEW AMERAUCANA BABIES STILL HAVE 4 IN BATOR NO PIPS ON THEM BUT TODAY IS DAY 21 MAYBE THERE MIGHT BE MORE EITHER WAY I AM HAPPY. THESE ARE SHIPPED EGGS AND OUT OF 18 SIX HATCHED THAT IS ABOUT 30% I THINK. THERE WERE JUST 11 FERTILE SO I DON'T KNOW . I STILL HAVE MY BUFF ROCK EGGS IN THERE THEY ARE DUE TO HATCH TODAY IS DAY 20 ON THEM AND NOTHING YET OUT OF THEM, THERE ARE JUST 3 OF THOSE EGGS THOUGH 2 I KNOW HAD BABIES ON DAY 18 THE OTHER I AM NOT TOO SURE ABOUT. DO YOU THINK MY OTHER EGGS WILL HATCH? THE FIRST ONES TO HATCH WENT LIKE CLOCK WORK AND MADE THE MOST PERFECT ZIPS YOU HAVE EVER SEEN. OH I STILL HAVE 19 EGGS IN MY OCTAGON 20 ADVANCED TOO WE CANDLED THEM LAST NIGHT ON DAY 10 AND EVERY ONE OF THE RED STAR EGGS ARE FERTIL WITH BABIES GROWING ALL 17 AND 1 OF THE WHITE ROCKS WE JUST SET 19 EGGS IN IT THATS ALL WE HAD. mY DH HAS GONE CHICKEN CRAZY WE HAVE WAAAAAAY TO MANY WE HAVE 87 CHICKENS AND THAT IS NOT INCLUDING THE BABIES HELP!!!! HE CAN'T QUIT HATCHING. I THINK HE NEEDS TO GO TO CHA (HICHEN HATCHERS ANONAMASE) (CAN'T SPELL)lol!!!

Today is day 21 and I can hear cheeping from within the incubator but no pips on any of the eggs. I have Noisey Nora in the brooder next to the incubator and she's chirping away encouraging the eggs on.....

Now...this afternoon I'm sure to be overrun with phone calls from my Pre K students who are on vacation this week but want to come and see the hatchlings.. I'm glad Nora hatched so they have someone to see. I have a feeling since I set the eggs after noon on day 1, they won't hatch until sometime tonight.... better clean up around here!

Well, I think my hatch is done... 5 beautiful quail (one pipped, then never hatched). Considering all the problems we had during the process, I am glad that I got that many. I'm leaving the eggs for another couple of days, but I think they're done. I wish I could say not bad, but considering I started with 70+ eggs, them's some perty derned expensive quail!

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain sorry you only got 5 out of 70+. Hatching is expensive, I'm learning that myself very quickly.

I woke to 3 pips from my Welsummer eggs ( day 21 today ), one just hatched. My 5 year old sang it Happy Birthday as soon as it popped out. LOL

I'm well into the hatch of 10 dozen Buff orps, Ameriacana, Phoenix, & some cochins crossed with above (except phoenix). This was my test run for fertility and a relatively new (to me) incubator. This a.m. I had 13 hatched and a gazillion (exagerated but still too many to count) pipped. I also have 2 dozen pekin, welsh harlequin ducks due next wednesday, and 2 more dozen pekin and welsh harlequin as well as 7 royal palm turkeys due....May 19th

I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks Sharon... yes, it is, especially since the only way I'm going to get stock is to hatch my own. There's really no one here that sells what I'm looking for. So I have to take my chances with shipped eggs. I will try again with the quail, though, now that I have the system down. We just had so many hiccups with power outages, burnt bulbs, malfunctions of all sorts... it's been frustrating, but such a joy to see the ones that made it. Hopefully I can breed these and hatch my own.

I was up til 1 am this morning waiting for my babies to finish hatching so I could take them out and put them with the rest of the chicks. This morning I had two more in the incubator that were ready to come out. This is so exciting. I think I am finished, I have 5 more eggs in there but no action taken on them yet. There were some I wasnt sure on and I bet thats them. 25 eggs total, and 20 baby chickies out eating and playing.
I've got 9 yellowish chicks with stripes on them and 11 blacks, 3 of them have cochin genes.

So what size chicken do you get when you cross bantam roo with standard hen?

I can't wait to see how they feather out. Sorry I can't send pictures, because photobucket keeps acting up.

wow, how on earth is that going? That is an amazing amount of chicks you all are hatching!!
