Who is pipping and waiting right now??

Just went to check on my eggs again, this is like the 50th time in 30 minutes, and I heard a peep, twice. Please tell me this is a great sign that all is o.k.

Peeping is good...

If it's your first one to hatch, try peeping at it... it will peep back.

I did that and it did peep back. So sweet. All 3 fertile eggs now have pips in them and 1 is trying to zip. I pray that when I come home from church I will have a baby chick.

And yes, this is my first hatch.

I'll join in the fun since my husband is sick to death of my coming in from the barn with the latest 'guess what hatched' report!

I have eggs under a broody hen, and I'm getting a crazy staggered hatch even though all the eggs were put under her at the same time.

It's a mixed batch of turkeys (that were started earlier for longer incubation) and eggs from my Ameraucana hens for EE chicks. So far I have 4 Rio Grande Wild turkeys hatch, and one turkey egg left waiting. 2 EE chicks hatched, and I think 3 eggs waiting. One egg was peeping at me, so that little one is on its way. I was really hoping more of the EE chicks would hatch.

I also have 20 EE (Ameraucana X RIR) and 4 Buff OrpxRIR eggs in an incubator on day 7. Still a looonnnggg wait to go on those!

Day 21 on my Cuckoo Marans and Day 19 on my Polish. Day 7 on my EE's - just candles and see something (I don't quite get this candling thing) in all 14. These eggs were really shaken by the PO and arrived with a notably damaged box. They were packed well and most survived the trip, but I wasn't holding out much hope for them. Maybe.....

No pips - nothing! I have to go to work. I'll have to run home at lunch and dinner (12 hour day).

Count to date is 19 out of 30 hatched, one died. Today is day 24 and I had planned to turn off the bater tonight, but I may give it a day or two more. One chick is still a little wobbly,so I left it in the bater until this afternoon. I love hatching these mixed breeds. I have such interesting combinations.

I have eggs that are "moving", but no pipping yet. It is day 21 for my eggs. They are Plymouth Barred Rocks. Is this normal to see the eggs moving, but no pipping?

yeah,it's normal. What is maddening is that they may move and then sit still for a couple of days before pipping. It's enough to make you pull someone's hair out!

Thanks for the quick response. We did the natural hatch earlier this year with the hen, because she got broody and I felt sorry for her. The babies (only 4 hatched) are doing great! We gave them to my daughter and son-in-law, but they wanted more than four, so we are doing the incubator this time. There has been a lot of movement in there, but no pipping yet. Is there any certain time frame as to when they should start pipping?
