Who is with me?

Well, what is in my incubator are my last hatches.

Out of 15 chicken eggs, I have 10 healthy strong chicks and 1 in the incubator, which I think was trampled and is now trying to pull through:

I had 1 bad egg, 2 backward babies did not make and 1 was backward that I di not catch, so it never even made it out of the shell.

As for the ducks, there are 3 and 2 were backwards, 1 of the 2 backward ducks is in the incubator still and I really do not think it will make it. At first they all 3 seemed well and then the next day, the one completely turned around and was doing very poorly. The other 2 seem good for now.

My peafowl egg was still alive as of last night, so I am excited about that, it is due on the 29th.

After that, I have a batches due on the 3rd, 4th and 5th 9th and 10th, with duck and peafowl in there somewhere.

Then I will get everything cleaned up and my incubator will be put up until next year. I may allow the hens to sit on some and if they hatch, great, if not that is fine also. Well, I may keep 1 incubator for the peafowl eggs, not sure and then add a couple eggs a week after I put them in so the peafowl has a couple buddies.

I'm going to keep one running. As long as there are hens laying eggs there might be something that needs hatching help and I hate to be without. Besides, I don't have enough room in the shed for Darthbator AND the Little Red Corvette. LRC will go up, though it makes a nice small batch brooder.

Darthbator doesn't use so much energy that I can't just let him run. And I LIKE tinkering with it anyway. Perfection is out there, I know it...

To hell with carton hatching for eggs that are too large for the carton... somebody just kill me, another marans egg wobble off the carton and cracked today, fortunately I THINK it's repairable. Now they're all on their sides. Fine, I'll hand turn. I should have after the first one. I feel so dumb.

Ah well, not meant to be.

WWD why would you think an egg carton would hatch an egg anyway? For real, you never see a hen standing her eggs up on end.

If the egg is still moving inside, put some scotch tape on it and back into the incubator.

Should be here tomorrow, or hopefully this evening. I never opened and rolled eggs so fast in my life than I did when I saw that. I usually pick them up and turn, not this time, I just reached in and rolled them the opposite direction.

I forgot to say, the chick is even at the right end of the egg.

Cannot wait to post a picture and my friend said it is impossible to hatch peafowl in an incubator. YEAH, if you do not watch the temperature.

He is almost out. I can see a lot of wobbling, so I know he is close. I am giving him to my friend since his did not make it, same reason as my first, temp spikes. My friend is very excited, because ever since I got my peafowl he has been wanting some. So I am happy. I have my 3 and that is enough for me. I was just going to take them to auction any way.

I am going to go feed and hopefully when I come back in, he will be out and I can get a picture. I will also post a picture of him tomorrow when he is dry.

And our neighbor down the road kept saying they never hatch in the incubator. WHATEVER, I know different now.

He is here, my India Blue baby.

This time it's been nothing but trouble for the over sized eggs. So they're on their sides now. The cracked one looks okay for now might just still be developing - LOL a fast soak of the crack in Blue Kote followed by wax. I couldn't find my Betadine fast enough. And Blue Kote is some serious sh**.

I'm sitting here dying of laughing the junior turkey and chick horde has just found their way onto the patio. Sounds like a flock of Jurassic Park Compies out there. Though Brit makes a passable Velociraptor hunting cry.

It's way cool to walk with them into the high grass in the back forty and pretend for a minute those are dinosaur in the tall grasses... hunting ME. Chuckle.

I'm going to look into my local codes for pheasant and peafowl, those babies are too cute...

LOL WWD!!!!! I am literally laughing my @$$ off at your description of your mini jurassic park!

I have used cartons to hatch too. I seem to do better with cartons than just laying them down on their sides. But that's just me.

I can't wait for my peababies to hatch. I can't wait for the turklettes to hatch!!!!!!!!

Well our electric went out last (10:30pm) night during the major (so needed) storm and baby was not doing so well this morning.

Last night at 12am I threw a couple towels over the incubators when I realized electricity was not coming back on any time soon. When I went in there the temp had dropped to 98, not to bad, but baby was not dry yet. At about 2am I wrapped baby in a couple washclothes, because the temp had dropped to 94. This morning, baby still not dry and temp was about 87, which I figured was also due to the cooling outdoor temps, because the AC sure was not on and little baby was on his side not doing so well. So around 8am I boiled some water, put it in a bowl and placed the bowl in the incubator, leaving it until the temp rose to 102. Then I pulled the water, because of the humidity rising which to much humidity could cause baby to suffocate. Finally at 10:30 the electricity came back on and now the little one seems to be getting better. He has finally started to completely dry.

WWD, I love my golden pheasants and my peafowl, they are so colorful and pretty.

CM how are you peafowl coming, yours should be any day now. I always mark my eggs (chicken also) a day or 2 extra, it has always worked for me, but it confuses me sometimes also.
