I thought the hens were better also, until my hens only hatched 1 out of 12 and I hatched 28 out of 32. For some reason the ones they are sitting on end up going bad, but if I stick them in the incubator, I have an excellant hatch.

My broodies were sitting on 14 eggs and their eggs are due to hatch Friday. They are down to sitting on 8 or 9 and I am not thikning it is going to turn out good, but we will find out.

I never received an opinion on my question about humidity.
So I raised the humidity and stuck the eggs point side down in a carton for the first 12 hours. Then I took them out and placed them on their side and cover with a warm damp cloth for 12 hours. They are now back in the incubator, point side up for another. I will keep you all informed as to how it starts looking before the 15th. Good luck to all of you.

I have 8 out of 10 pipped from the ones due on the 5th.

Keeping fingers crossed for my shipped eggs that are due on the 15th.

Will be moving them out of the carton and on their side again today, or maybe I should wait until these hatch.

For my eggs due on the 10th, I have 3 eggs out of 8 that are/were doing something. One has the air cell on the side but the air cell is growing and so is the dark mass inside with veins. One is a tiny pullet egg, but it is growing nicely too and I see tons and tons of veins in it along with the expanding air cell. The last one I am unsure of, the air cell isn't as big as the other two, but I didn't want to chuck it out just in case.

If none of these hatch, I saved up 13 eggs from my girls this week to put in for a second try!

I will candle tonight since my other chicks have hatched. Can you believe I had 1 bad egg and 11 chicks hatched out of 10 eggs.

Apparently I looked over a couple and thought I only put 10 in that day.

I will fill you in on my shipped eggs after I candle.

Humidity is dependent on method. There are two methods, dry hatching and not.

I dry hatch. My humidity at hatch will only be 50-60.

With the other method of hatch - the humidity is upwards 80 %.

Hatching is generally considered only the last 3-4 days though many people have and still do, five days. Depends who you learned from.

I just put 10 into hatch mode in the mini-fridge bator (no good name yet) and started six turkey eggs and a bunch of partridge and barred rock eggs in the Uglybator.

I usually only leave them on their side, but the air sac looked the same as my last batch of shipped eggs, HUGE. So I thought putting them in the egg carton and flipping them with more humidity may work. The last shipped batch ended up shrink wrapped when that happened to the air sac and I lost them all. So I thought, try a different techique and I will see if it works. My eggs have never ended up like that and if I lose any it is only one or two, but it is not due to suffocation. If these do not hatch, I will have to try shipping through a different farm.
