Who is with me?

Okay, now for my HELP section.

My temp spiked, as I stated, 3 times to 104 and now I am having early hatches from the ones that where caught in the heat wave. This morning before I left for court, I checked on the baby duck that was hatching.

WELL, his body is out of the egg, but the yoke sac is not all the way in and he is still attached. I have never had this problem, so does anyone know what to do for it. I am afraid to detach what is there. Should I just leave him in the incubator and hope it all sucks in, or will he die.

Hope you 2 are still here.

Just leave him rest, he'll unstuck

in awhile.

I'd just let him rest, absorption can take hours. If you're worried about moisture - make him a little survival bag out of press-n-seal. I put the sticky side out, and leave their heads out and eventually once they're ready they usually kick out of egg and bag at the same time.

I used to use rags/paper towel but the chicks always felt cool that way. I know the plastic is going to help them keep heat.

He is out of the egg, not in, but the egg is still attached by the sac. He does not seem to be doing well, of course, my first black and white duck (not black and yellow). I am starting to think he is just not going to make it. BUT as always,

Sorry, I've been away for a while. Yeah, what WWD said. Just leave him attached. I've had a couple come out with yolk sacks but out of shell. They eventually sucked up.

He has been out of the egg for quite awhile and still no change. He is not even drying off and is listless, but alive. He was more active this morning before I left for court. I have been moistening every couple hours, since the humidity was not set for a hatch (AGAIN). Will let you know what happens, I am just taking him as being alive as a good thing.

If he's still damp at this point you might want to start getting him dry, when they're damp a very long time they seem to burn a LOT of energy. A small isolation basket/box etc and in the brooder might help him out at this point but that slow to absorb can mean something internal isn't quite right. Luck to you both...
