Who is with me?

WWD, you dropped an egg?

I would have been in tears, especially with the cost from some for the Maran eggs. I had 1 out of 12 hatch of my Marans and Iof all things, I think it is a roo. That is about my luck. If it is a Roo, I think I am going to cross it with my cornish hens and see what I get.

If it does turn out to be a hen, I will cross it with my Splash Jersey Giant (unless that is a hen also).

In that case again

I dunno.

Casey, a word of warning:
Never, never open an egg that still has 10 days to go and never throw it out unless it stinks. I am so sorry you had to learn that the hard way, but sometimes we learn more from our own stupid mistakes. Trust me, if an egg is dark inside and does not stink, it is more than likely a chick inside. Always, always smell the egg before doing anything and you will be able to tell if it is bad or not. Unless you are like me and just happen to have that crazy hen that poos on her eggs.

Riq, now aren't you glad you waited as we suggested? You have 2 more forming and more than likely the other 2 are duds.

Patience always seems to pay off.

As for me and my auction experience. I did go, but I did not take any chicks and a good thing at that. The chicks that were there went for 50 cents and the adult birds went for $2.50. I sell a lot of my chicks on craigslist for $1.50 (day old) and up. I just could not decide which ones to take.

BUT,

I ended up buying a horse. A gorgeous black and white Paint gelding. Oh, DH probably wanted to kick my arse when I got home and told him. The look on his face spoke 1000 words

, good thing nothing ever came out and he is past the shock of it today. He even took me to get him, probably just wanted to see what I purchased.

Well, I got to run. There is a lady coming to look at the 7 2 week old chicks I have available and maybe a few more that are in my adult coop. Will find out when she gets here.

The deal I give with my chicks is: If you end up with to many Roos, bring them back and we can repalce them with hens.

Cannot really beat that deal, my extra roos go in the deep freeze any ways.

Okay going to auction to sell is one thing... Buying a horse while there another... Laura'd kill me.

So update here... the first three rescued broody eggs are pipped this morning. And the marans that survived might just hatch in the next two days. Then the other three from the broody that jumped ship, about five days after them... LOL...

Then the replacement marans eggs should go in about 14 days from now... Unless I drop them all.

Lord I wish I were more coordinated but that went away a long time ago. Sigh.

I am going to post a new thread about this, but wanted to hear from you guys first.....

The bator I am using for my Incubator is a Hova-bator 2362N. I am wondering if I can buy one of the pre-set therostats from GQF (the ones that come in th 1588) if it would work??? Anyone have any ideas?

I will continue to use the other bator for my hatcher.

::SIGH:: I should have just purchased the 1588 to begin with!!!!!

Sorry I'm all homemade here now. I bet they sell just the thermostat set up as well as replacement parts. Cutter or fleming or the hatchery sites would probably all have it as replacement parts.

Yeah, I can order a replacement pre-set thermostat. I just want to be sure it will work in my bator before I order. Even though they are relatively inexpensive, I don't want to spend the extra $ if it will not work.

Lori, I'd think so but I would do a post and ask people who've had both just to be sure. Pretty certain the only diff in those models is thermostat/element set up, but check.

WWD, That's what I thought too, but I have made a post in the Incubating & Hatching section. I have also sent an email to GQF.

We shall see!

I do not want to take any chances with my turkletts, guineas and peafowl!!!!

Hope you can convert Lori. Good luck.

And here the first two chicks are out, third is pipped but he's in a much smaller egg. I'm going to keep an eye on him. Got him a nice damp wool sock and a warm spot, hope he makes it even if I already selling excess stock. There's always the potential for the next generation's spectacular roo...

Chickie mama, just buy a new incubator - same kind and switch out the parts. Then take the new one back for a refund after a few days. That is what the lady up the road does. I was laughing my arse off when she told me that.
