WWD, you dropped an egg?
I would have been in tears, especially with the cost from some for the Maran eggs. I had 1 out of 12 hatch of my Marans and Iof all things, I think it is a roo. That is about my luck. If it is a Roo, I think I am going to cross it with my cornish hens and see what I get.
If it does turn out to be a hen, I will cross it with my Splash Jersey Giant (unless that is a hen also).
In that case again
I dunno.
Casey, a word of warning:
Never, never open an egg that still has 10 days to go and never throw it out unless it stinks. I am so sorry you had to learn that the hard way, but sometimes we learn more from our own stupid mistakes. Trust me, if an egg is dark inside and does not stink, it is more than likely a chick inside. Always, always smell the egg before doing anything and you will be able to tell if it is bad or not. Unless you are like me and just happen to have that crazy hen that poos on her eggs.
Riq, now aren't you glad you waited as we suggested? You have 2 more forming and more than likely the other 2 are duds.
Patience always seems to pay off.
As for me and my auction experience. I did go, but I did not take any chicks and a good thing at that. The chicks that were there went for 50 cents and the adult birds went for $2.50. I sell a lot of my chicks on craigslist for $1.50 (day old) and up. I just could not decide which ones to take.
BUT,
I ended up buying a horse. A gorgeous black and white Paint gelding. Oh, DH probably wanted to kick my arse when I got home and told him. The look on his face spoke 1000 words
, good thing nothing ever came out and he is past the shock of it today. He even took me to get him, probably just wanted to see what I purchased.
Well, I got to run. There is a lady coming to look at the 7 2 week old chicks I have available and maybe a few more that are in my adult coop. Will find out when she gets here.
The deal I give with my chicks is: If you end up with to many Roos, bring them back and we can repalce them with hens.
Cannot really beat that deal, my extra roos go in the deep freeze any ways.
