who likes to hatch eggs

Yes, sadly that is fairly real, the $450 might be a bit high, we just bought what we think will last for a month for $400. It might go a bit longer, or it might not. We will see in thirty days. We have transitioned to purchasing from a feed mill to help keep things in line. (See, more denial)

Grand total head count is around 240-250, I am sure that I have underestimated just a bit due to denial. We will be thinning soon. Anyone need a cockerel or twelve?

This does not include the 24 duck, and 30 or so chicken eggs in the bators, or the dozen eggs in USPS on thier way.

All I can say...is WOW!!!

My favorite thing to do is gather a bunch of "barn eggs" and put em in the bator.

Last time we got some pure breeds, some mutts and some really cool locking crosses.

Rufflemyfeathers, your avatar is really great. a smiley with an egg shell , not bad !!

Well guess you could say I like to hatch any eggs, first time was 1964. Not many birds I have not hatched. Button quail to Ostrich. If I listed all I have hatch I would be posting all day.

and today I am going to toss the rest (8 eggs) I think they won;t make it, it's my fault, after 8 hatched I opened the bator and moved the babies to brooder, maybe I opened it too long

sometime this week I will try again eventhough one of momma cochin decide sitting on her eggs starting 2 days ago

I agree, hatching egg is an addiction

good luck ya'll with your hatching project

I didn't even mean to start hatching. Like a real pro dummy, I bid on an ebay auction for Barred Rock eggs since I had purchased 6 pullets from Meyers and enjoyed them so much, decided I wanted more. My problem is that I won the auction thinking my sister-in-law had a bator - I mean, it's only 21 days.... but she didn't as it belonged to someone she had severed ties with.... doh

So I had to purchase a cheap bator (LG 9200) and my $20 eggs turned into $70 and after that I figured the bator needs to pay for itself

ETA - oh, and yesterday I went and purchased the auto egg turner so add another $45... gotta pay for the bator... need more eggs to hatch to sell some chicks to recoup investment...

So I just hatched out 8 Light Brahmas on Saturday and have Black Jersey Giants and Buckeyes going in on Wednesday and possibly a test dozen of Golden Buffs because I told my Amish neighbor I would hatch eggs for him this spring....

I plan to set 41 GB eggs in the classroom on Tuesday, April 14th - but all those chicks will go back to my Amish neighbor.

I didn't mean to become a hatch addict

I'm incubating my second chicken hatch ever and I'm sure I'm addicted!
My hubby has some geese and we have never had any hatch naturally so I'm already thinking I want to try some of those.
I cracked some and they are fertile. I know geese are challenging to hatch but that just makes me want to try even more.
