Who loves their BR?

I had six barred rock hens, and five of them were really sweet. The other (Pebbles) was EVIL. She didnt understand that i wasnt part of the pecking order, so she flogged me twice, both times in which I fell into a bunch of chicken poop. I love my BR's though.

Mine seem to be over achivers, eager to eat from your hand, first to clear the wall of the brooder, very curious and always wanting to hop on your knees and tell you their story. Even the Alpha Rooster will lie between your feet while you have morning coffee, no looking for attention though. It will ruin his macho image with the ladies. Any work done around the coop is throughly inspected as you work with a quizzicle sidewise look that says "I don't think so Scooter". The buff rocks are kind of shy and the Buff Cochin is dumber than a box of rocks.

Thanks, I am always taking pictures of him. He is by far my favorite. We did have a sit down talk the other day when he took a shot at me in the coop. I think he understands who the REAL Big Daddy is in the yard now. I'll be posting some pics up tomorrow maybe after I do another photo shoot of my chooks.

Ok, my little Buff Cochins arent the only dumb bunnies, thats good. They are the last to figure out everyone has left the coop every morning, they look around as if to say, "where did they all go?"...hehe

I love my 2 BR pullets. I have several young pullets of many breeds that are selling fast. I vowed to keep one of every breed except my FBCMs from a breeder. But I am having a VERY hard time not keeping my 2 BR pullets....I have 2 Cuckoo Marans hens, but theyre not the same! Theyre so cute, I have an old childs garden bench in their run, and the 2 little BRs sit on each end like bookends and take their morning naps. Do you guys think I should keep both???

I looooove my BRs. Aside from just being gorgeous birds, my two girls are incredibly friendly and wonderful layers. My husband calls my BR girl, Eleanor, my assistant. No matter where I am in the yard, whatever I'm doing, she's right behind me telling me all about her day, gossiping about the other girls, giving me advice on coop repairs, etc....

I currently don't have any but the ones I've have had were awesome. I would have to say they are in my top three of standard chickens kept as layers. Sweet!

That is SO cute!

I love my BR. When I come out with treats, she'll sneak across the yard (so she doesn't tip the others off) and will gobble as much as she can before the others realize what's going on. Her name is Sneaky, LOL. She's the best!!

I have one Barred Rock that was given to me a free chick at the feed store. Somebody came in and bought all the chicks except her. They only wanted a certain amount and refused to get the last one. Weird, right? She has raised a batch of chicks this year and is broody again.

Here she is being her nosey self:

My BR's are only a couple weeks old but they are friendly. They like to sit on your feet and just kinda hang around with you. They are also VERY good at flying right now and them and the BJG's are always racing around the brooder causing a ruckus! I love them
